Snappers fall to Silverhawks, E-Twin blast Astros

Beloit 4 at South Bend 5

The Beloit Snappers took an early lead against the South Bend Silverhawks on Friday, but could not hold off the home team's comeback, falling 5-4 at Coveleski Stadium.

With two outs on the board in the top of the second, Mark Dolenc singled, then stole 2nd. Greg Yersich followed that up with a line drive to right that plated Dolenc to open the scoring. Allan de San Miguel would get hit by a pitch and Jeanfred Brito tripled to bring the pair of catchers in. A missed catching error by second baseman Taylor Harbin got Brito over the plate as well. Ben Revere would walk, then be caught stealing 2nd to send Beloit out to field.

Snappers starter Henry Reyes would keep South Bend quiet until the bottom of the fourth inning. After getting Harbin out on strikes, Sean Coughlin doubled out to left. Chance Wheeless would go down on strikes, but Eli Rumler took a walk. Ramon Ramirez singled to score the pair, helped in part by Revere's fielding error. Ramirez would end up at second base and Jimmy Principe doubled him in before Reyes would get Matthew Oxendine out on strikes.

Harbin would tie up the game in the bottom of the 5th, sending a fly ball over the center field fence for this ninth home run of the season.

Mike Tarsi would replace Reyes in the bottom of the sixth, and after getting Wheeless out on strikes, allowed a single to Rumler. The runner would be advanced by Juan Richardson's throwing error. Ramirez singled to send Rumler to 3rd and Principe sacrificed him into put the Silverhawks on top.

Beloit would only manage five hits the game with only one coming after the sixth inning.

Yersich was 2-for-3 with a run and a run scored, Yangervis Solarte and Dolenc were 1-for-4 each, Dolenc with a run and Brito was 1-for-3 with a run, a triple and a pair of RBIs.

Reyes would work five innings allowing 4 runs, 3 earned on 5 hits and a walk while fanning five. Tarsi took the loss on 2 innings worth of work, allowing an unearned run on 3 hits while fanning 2.

The win the was the eighth straight for South Bend.

Having hawked enough silver, the Snappers now visit the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The first pitch is set for 6:35 PM at Fox Cities Stadium.

Greeneville 7 at Elizabethton 10

The Elizabethton Twins bats were back and booming as they downed the Greeneville Astros in a slug fest Friday night. The teams knocked out a combined 20 hits for 17 runs.

Greeneville took and early lead with Jose Altuve singling and stealing second. Wilton Infante went down on strikes before Jay Austin singled to drive in Altuve. Austin then stole second and come home on Renzo Tello's double out to left.

The E-Twins answered back with Adam Severino sending his first home run of the season over the right field wall.

Jon Waltenbury and Alex Soto hit back-to-back doubles in the bottom the fourth. Michael Harrington's double plated the pair to give the E-Twins the lead. After Evan Bigley went down on strikes during which time Harrington advanced to 3rd, Jeff Lanning sacrificed in the Twins left fielder.

The top of the sixth saw Altuve take a walk, then move to 2nd on a wild pitch by E-Twins starter Brad Tippett. Infante's ground out advanced him to 3rd and he'd score on Jay Austin's fly ball single to center to cut the Twins lead to one.

James Beresford singled in the bottom half of the stanza however and advanced to 2nd on Austin's fielding error. Dominic De La Osa's ground out saw him to 3rd and Nick Romero singled to plate the Aussie. This would signal a pitching change for the Astros, who brought in David Dinelli to replace Jordan Lyles. Waltenbury singled out center before Alex Soto went yard, his 8th of the year over the center field wall to bring in the pair of runners with him.

An 8-3 lead seemed to do little to dent the Astro's enthusiasm. Ricardo Bonfante doubled in the top of the 7th and moved to 3rd on a Altuve fly out. The Twins would take the opportunity to replace Brad Tippett with Kyle Carr. Carr would unleash a wild pitch however, allowing Bonfante to score.

Tippett would leave the contest, having allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out 5 in 6.2 innings.

Waltenbury took a walk in the bottom of the 7th, and Soto took advantage of the thin mountain air to homered him in with his second yard ball of the contest, his 9th of the season.

Tello tripled off Carr in the top of the 8th, and would come home, one out later on Kody Hinze line drive single.

Lee Martin replaced Carr in the top of the 9th. He'd walk Fredrico Hernandez and Bonfante. A single by Altuve brought in the first runner before Mark Hamburger was brought in from the bullpen. He'd get Infante to ground out, but Bonfante scored on the play. Then took Austin out on strikes and got Tello to ground out to end the inning, and the game.

Soto was 3-for-4 in the slug fest with 3 runs and 5 RBIs. Waltenburh was 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs. Romero and Severino were both 1-for-4 with a run and a run scored, Severino with a triple. Harrington was 1-for-3 with a double, a run and 2 RBIs, while Beresford was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and a run.

The E-Twins host the Kingport Mets for a pair of game on Saturday, making out a previous rain out. First pitch for the first game is due out at 6:00 PM Eastern time.

Johnson City takes two on Sunday

Elizabethton 1 at Johnson City 6

It's rare to see the Elizabethton Twins with only two hits, but that's exactly what happened against the Johnson City Cardinals in the conclusion of the game suspended on July 1, 2008.

Guillermo Toribio would single in the bottom of the first off starter Bobby Lanigan. Following a fly out to Matt Rigoli, Nico Vasquez singled to put two on board. A passed ball by catcher Alex Soto advanced the pair, and Torbino would cross the plate on Curt Smith's ground out to give the cards the early lead.

They would added to it in the bottom of the fourth with Smith singling. After Jack Cawley and Edgar Lara went down on strikes, Travis Mitchell singled and Osvaldo Morales was hit by a pitch to load the bags. Lannigan then walked Jarred Bogany and Torbino to force in a pair of runs before finally getting Matt Rigoli out on the strikes.

Lanigan would exit the mound, giving up 3 runs, 2 earned on 5 hits and 2 walks while fanning five after 4 innings. After that it appears that Curt Leavitt replaced him but there are no stats available for for this game for the inning coming Twins prospect. (Don't you just LOVE Baseball Advanced Media?)

James Beresford would single and a passed ball by Cawley moved him to second. Dominic De La Osa drew a walk and Nick Romero reached on a fielding error by the Cards' Morales. Jon Waltenbury would hit into a ground out that plated Beresford, and Jon Bravo would replace Jose Mateo on the mound before Alex Soto was taken out on strikes.

Vasquez singled and stole 2nd off Leavitt. Smith would ground out and Cawley walk before Edgar Lara doubled to drive in Vasquez and Cawley.

The seventh inning would see Vasquez walk to lead off then moving to 2nd on a passed ball by Soto. Smith doubled him in for the final run of the game.

Soto had the only other hit in the game, going 1-for-3 at the plate with walk.

Elizabethton 3 at Johnson City 11

One of the big questions Monday at the GCL game was WHAT is wrong with Danny Berlind? I don't know, I'm not there. And short of Rick Knapp showing up I'm not likely to know anytime soon. I do know that he wasn't pitching as well as I expected in Instructional League, but it was in no way indicative for the sort of shelling he's been suffering in Elizabethton.

Nico Vasquez singled off Berlind in the bottom of the first with one out on the board. A throwing error by Berlind on the pick off attempt moved Vasquez to 2nd. Curt Smith would pop out before Ivan Castro singled to plate the Cards short stop.

Nathan Hanson reached on a fielding error and took 2nd base as well when the ball went into the dugout. He moved to 3rd on a sac bunt by Beresford and came home on Dominic De La Osa's sacrifice fly to center.

Things turned bad for Berlind in the bottom of the stanza. After getting Brett Lilley out on strikes, Vasquez singled. Smith then clubbed a home run, his sixth of the season over the center field wall. Ivan Castro would walk to follow that up and Alex Castellanos, Travis Mitchell, Edgar Lara and Jarred Bogany all singled to to plate four more. Kyle Carr would replace Berlind at that point, getting Lilley to ground into a double play to end the inning.

It seems like Berlind is not pitching with a lot of confidence at the moment. Perhaps a move to the bullpen would be in order, so he could just air it out for an inning or two and get himself back on track?

Hanson doubled in the top of the fifth and following a fly out by Beresford, De La Osa would get hit by a pitch. Nick Romero sacrificed in Hanson. Singles to Jon Waltenbury and Michael Harrigton brought in De La Osa. Lanning would walk and the Cards would bring in Jorge Rondon to replace starter Matthew North. Rondon would get Angel Morales out on strikes to end the E-Twins scoring threat.

Osvaldo Morales put his fifth home run of the season over the right field wall. Following a fly out to Alex Castellonos, Travis Mitchell and Edgar Lara both walked. Jarred Bogany ground into a force out that plated Mitchell and Lilley singled before Danny Rondon came in to replace Carr, getting Vasques to ground out to end the the inning.

Smith would single and Ivan Castro homered off Rondon in the bottom of the sixth to complete the scoring.

Harrington was 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI, while Hanson was 1-for-3 with a double and a pair of runs. Waltenbury and Beresford were the one hit wonders of the game. Jeff Lanning also had a single, going 1-for-2 at the plate, but drew a walk to go along with it.

E-Twins bats fall short

Greenville 8 at Elizabethton 7

After a huge offensive onslaught out of the game, the Elizabethton Twins bats have cooled down of late. Tuesday night, they'd fall one short as the Greeneville Astros rallied back in the 9th to take one at Joe O'Brien Stadium.

Jay Austin opened up the game by taking a walk from Danny Berlind, then stealing 2nd. Berlind would get Joe Alluve to fly out to right before Frank Almonte singled to score Austin. After Kody Hinze went down on strikes, Ebert Rosario hit his first home run of the season over the center field wall to give the Astros a 3-0 lead.

The Twins were quick to respond though. Dominic De La Osa walked and two outs later, so would Alex Soto. Michael Harrington then belted one over the right field fence for his six home run of the brief season for the E-Twins, tying up the score.

Kody Hinze homered in the top of the 4th off Berlin, his third of the season. After a ground out to Rosario, Fredrico Hernandez took a walk. Nathan Metroka's ground ball single moved Fernandez to 2nd and a Kyle Miller line drive got him to 3rd. After taking Ricardo Bonfante out on strikes, Berlind would walk Jay Austin to force in a run. That did it for the E-Twins beleaguered starter, as Curtis Leavitt came in to replace Berlind, getting Jose Alluve out on strikes to end the inning.

Soto his his 7th homer run over the right field fence to take one back in the bottom of the 5th.

Jon Watenbury singled and Soto doubled to move him to 3rd. Following a ground out to Harrington, Evan Bigley singled to score Waltenbury. A wild pitch by Arcenio Leon plated Soto and a second wild pitch moved Bigley to 3rd. Jeff Lanning took a walk, and Angel Morales stuck out before yet another wild pitch by Leon finally plated Bigley. That put the Twins up on top, but the Astros had other plans.

Bonfante doubled in the top of the 9th, then stole 3rd base. Jose Alluve and Frank Almonte then hit back-to-back home runs off Danny Rondon to retake the lead. A strike out a ground out and a fly out finished off the Twins and the game.

Berlind allowed 5 runs, earned on 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5 over 3.2 innings. Leavitt worked the next four, allowing only 2 hits and a walk while striking out 3. Rondon would finish up the last 1.1 inning, allowing 3 earned runs on 3 hits while striking out 1.

Soto, Harrington and Morales were all 2-for-4 at the plate, Soto with 3 runs and a RBI, and Harrington with 1 run and 3 RBIs. Bigley was 2-for-5 with a run and a run scored. Waltenbury was 1-for-5 with a run. De La Osa was 0-for-2 at the plate but walked 3 times.

The rubber match of the three game series is Wednesday with a 7:00 PM start.

DSL Twins 4 at DSL Cubs 3

The DSL Twins picked up 4 runs on 9 hits to overcome the DSL Cubs on the road, 4-3.

Eliecer Cardenas took the start for the Twins, allowing only 1 run, earned, on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2.

Wilfy Gil singled off Marcos Perez in the top of the 5th, then stole 2nd base. A throwing error by catcher Juan Medina put Gil on 3rd. Danny Santana would reach on a fielder's choice when the Cubs tried to make the play at the plate and failed, Gil scored to put the Twins on the board.

A pitcher change brought Andres Quezada to the mound for the sixth and Manuel Soliman and Oswaldo Arcia both took singles off him. A throwing error by Quezeda on the pick off attempt advanced the runners. Jairo Rodriguez would go down on strikes before Eliel Sierra reached on a fielder's choice. Again the Cubs failed to make the play at the plate and a runner, this time Soliman, scored.

Soliman doubled his way onto base and Arica went yard off Arturo Florentino in the top of the 8th to give the Twins the game winning run.

Renzo Reverol worked 1 inning of relief, allowing 2 runs, unearned, on 1 hit and 1 walk while fanning 2. Edison Alvarez picked up his 9th save of the season, allowing 1 hit over the last 2 innings and striking out one.

Soliman, Arcia and Sierra were 2-for-4, Soliman with a pair of runs, Arcia with a run and 2 RBIs and Sierra with a RBI. Santana had a single and a walk, while Gil was 1-for-4 with a single and a run. Rodriguez was also 1-for-4, picking up the one hit wonder title.

E-Twins double up Bristol

Elizabethton 6 at Bristol 3

The score was a little more down to earth, but the Elizabethton Twins picked up an early lead and held off Bristol Sox late to go on to win 6-3.

Dan Osterbrock would pitch all nine innings for the E-Twins, allowing only 3 runs, 1 earned, on 3 hits while fanning nine.

Singles to Dominec De La Osa, Nick Romero and John Waltenbury put a run on the board for the Twins, helped by Misael Tavarez's throwing error. Danny Rams singled to drive in Romero, but a pair of pop outs and a ground out left the runners stranded.

Angel Morales knocked his fifth homer of the season over the right field wall in the top of the 2nd, making it 3-0.

Willy Mota would replace Bristol starter Onarkys Paniagua in the top of the fourth with 2 runners on, but would get three straight outs to retire the side. He'd keep the Twins off the board again until the sixth inning.

Following a ground out to Michael Herrington, Alex Soto singled and Adam Severino would be hit by a pitch. Morales was plunked as well to load the bags. James Beresford singled to drive in Soto before Mota would hit De La Osa with a pitch to force in Severino. Dan Puls would come in to replace the laboring Sox hurler, and got Romero and Waltenbury out on strikes.

With one out in the bottom of the stanza, Kevin Dubler, John Kateon and Justin Greene all singled off Osterbrock to load the bags. Jordon Kendall would strike out swinging, but Soto dropped the pitch and Dubler scored on the play. Juan Silerino then reached on Bereford's fielding error, letting Kateon score to give the Sox a pair of runs.

De La Osa walked in the top of the 8th, and Romero and Waltenbury both singled, driving in De La Osa. That would finish it for the Twins scoring. The Sox had one last hurrah left.

Jorden Kendall reached on a throwing error by Beresford, and moved to 2nd. He'd go to 3rd on Juan Silverio's ground out, and score on a similar play by Jose Castillo. Osterbrock would get Jedon Matthews out on strikes to end the game.

Soto finished up 3-for-5 for the twins with a run. Romero, Waltenbury and Rams were all 2-for-5, Romero with a run, and Waltenbury and Rams each with a run scored. De La Osa and Morales were each 1-for-3, De La Osa with a pair of runs and a run scored, and Morales with a run and run scored. Beresford was 1-for-4 with a run scored.

The Twins finish up in Brisol on Sunday with a 7:00 PM contest. They will then take Monday off before returning to Elizabethton for a three-game home stand against Kingsport.

Beloit 6 at Wisconsin 5

The Beloit Snappers bounced back after giving up an early lead to the Timber Rattlers to go on to win 6-5 in Appleton.

Juan Diaz would double for Wisconsin in the bottom of the 3rd and advance to third on a fielding error by Mark Dolenc. Blake Ochoa took a walk before Maximo Mendez singled in Diaz to put the Timber Rattlers on the board. After Gavin Dickey was called on strikes, Edilol Colina singled to load the bags. Beloit starter David Bromberg would take Almonte out on strikes before he unleashed a wild pitch, allowing Ochoa to score.

Alex Liddi singled out center, then stole 2nd base in the bottom of the 4th. A throwing error by catcher Allan de San Miguel saw Liddi to 3rd. After Diaz went down on strikes, Ochoa singled to plate Liddi. Mendez then doubled to put Ochoa on 3rd. He'd be sacrificed in by Dickey, making it 4-0 Timber Rattlers.

Kenneth Renaud scatter five hits and 3 walks over five innings while striking out 4 to keep the Snappers off the board. He'd give way to Joseph Kantakevich in the top of the sixth. Rene Leveret would greet the new pitcher with his first home run of the season in a Snappers uniform, going over the left field wall. Following a pair of ground outs, de San Miguel singled and Mark Dolenc doubled him in.

Chris Cates lead off the top of the 7th with a walk, and Ben Revere singled. Natividad Dilone would replace Kantekevich at that point. The newcomer allowed singles to Deibinson Romero and Leveret that drove in Cates and Revere to tie the game. Justin Souza would come out of the bullpen next and get Andrew Schmiesing and Greg Yersich out on strikes before de san Miguel's ground ball to center drove in Romero and Leveret.

Colina doubled off reliever Chris Anderson in the bottom of the 7th. Spencer Steedley would take over for the lefty, and allowed a double to Denny Almonte to give Wisconsin one more but that's all they'd get.

Anderson would pick up on win on 1.2 innings worth of work. Charles Nolte worked the last 1.1 innings, to pick up his first save of the season.

De San Miguel was 3-for-4 for the Snappers with a run and 2 RBIs, while Leveret was 3-for-5 with 2 runs and 3 RBIs.

The two team rematch on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 pm with Michael Pineda (5-4, 1.83) going to the mound for Wisconsin against Beloit's Santos Arias (4-3, 2.70).

Hurtin' Snappers blanked by Cedar Rapids

David Bromberg allowed 6 runs, 5 earned on 8 hits and a walk while striking out four in 5.1 innings as the the Cedar Rapids Kernels went on to blank the Beloit Snappers, 7-0.

The Snappers showed little offensively recording only six hits in the game, with Ben Revere getting 3 of them, finishing up 3-for-4 at the plate. Chris Cates and Allen de San Miguel were both 1-for-3, Cates also had a walk, while Greg Yersich was 1-for-4.

Ryan Groth led off the contest with a home run, his first of the season over the center field wall, a pretty good indication things were not going to go the Snappers way. Andrew Romine then tripled, and came home on Hector Estrella's ground out to give the Kernels a pair of runs.

Romine would singled in the top of the 3rd then moved to 2nd on a throwing error by Marc Dolenc. Esterella then doubled him in to make it 3-0 Cedar Rapids.

In the top of the sixth, Jay Brossman would single with one out and Clay Fuller would get hit by a pitch. Julio Perez doubled to drive in 2 more. After Ariel De Los Santos was hit by a pitch, Nelson Prada would hit the bullpen up for Charles Nolte to replace Bromberg. Nolte would allow a single to Tyler Johnson which plated Perez before getting the final two outs.

Chris Anderson would come in for the top of the ninth and Estrella struck again, this time a double out to self. A wild pitch saw Elstrella to 3rd, and he'd be sacrificed in by Brossman for the Kernel's seventh and final run.

Having had enough popcorn for the home stand, the Snappers now welcome in the Clinton Lumberkings for a four game set, with Tueday's first pitch due out at 7:00 PM.

Elizabethton 12 at Burlington 0

The Burlington Royals probably preferred the rain. As it was, what they got was not a thunderstorm, but the thunder of the Elizabethton Twins bats as they pulverized the Royals in both halves of a double header.

Nick Romero and Nick Papasan recorded a pair of home runs in game one. Romero would finish up 1-for-3 with a pair of walks, a pair of runs and a RBI. Papasan and Evan Bigley were both 3-for-4, Papi with 3 runs and 3 RBIs, while Bigly settled for 1 run and 1 RBI.

Jon Waltenbury went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run and a run scored. Dominic De La Osa was 3-for-5 with a run and 2 RBIs while Michael Harrington was 2-for-5 with a run and a RBI. Everyone in the line up had at least one hit and all but James Beresford had at least one run.

Danny Osterbrock allowed 2 hits and a walk over 5 innings to confound the Royals, fanning 2 over that time frame. Lee Martin and Thom Wright finished up the last two.

An eight-run fourth inning put the Elizabethton Twins well over the top in the game two.

Alex Soto's solo shot home run was just a bit of special treat in the fifth.

Jon Waltenbury was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and runs batted in. Evan Bigly and Alex Soto were both 2-for-4, Bigley with 2 RBIs, Soto with two runs and 4 RBIs. Jeanfred Brito was 2-for-5 with 2 runs. Everyone in the line up had a hit except for Danny Rams, who walked twice, and Adan Severino, a new addition from Broward Community College, who also drew a pair of walks.

Bobby Lanigan gave up 1 run on 1 hit and a walk while striking out 2. Danny Rondon and Mark Hamburger each worked an inning to finish up the contest.

Look for more thunder tonight at Burlington Athletic Stadium - thunder that won't be coming from the sky.

Beloit, E-town both fail

Things were not a poppin' for the Beloit Snappers at Pohlman Field, as the Cedar Rapid Kernels downed the home town team, 8-5.

Steve Hirschfeld lasted only 3 innings, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3. Andrew Romine singled with one out on the field and Hector Estrella walked. Following a fly out to Efren Navarro, Jay Brossman doubled to drive in the pair of runners. Clay Fuller took a walk before Julio Perez ground ball single plated Brossman to give Cedar Rapids a 3-0 lead out of the gate.

Tyler Johnson doubled in the top of the 2nd, moved to 3rd on a Ryan Groth single and come home when Romaine hit into a double play.

The Snappers would answer back this time, with Ozzie Lewis doubling, then moving to 3rd on Eric Santiago's ground out. Greg Yersich would then double in Lewis.

Henry Reyes would work the 4th for the Snappers and be on the mound in the top of the fifth when Brossman hit his 22nd double out to center. After Fuller went down on strikes, Julio Perez would double Brossman in.

Trailing badly, Greg Yersich singled in the bottom of the 7th and Allan de San Miguel took a walk. Mark Dolenc then singled to load the bags. Leonardo Calderon would replace Kernels' starter Robert Fish and would get Estarlin De Los Santos out on strikes. Chris Cates would ground into a force out, which scored Yersich.

With two outs on the board, Santiago singled in the bottom of the 8th, then ended up on 3rd due to a throwing error by Calderon. Yersich would then take a walk and de San Miguel would reach on a fielder's choice as the Kernels tried to make a play at the plate. No luck, as Santiago scored. Tim Kiely replaced Calderon on the mound and allowed a single to Dolenc that brought in Yersich before getting the final out.

Chris Anderson would allowed back to back singles to Navarro and Brossman. Fuller would be taken out on a bunt pop out and Julio Perez on strikes. The pair of runners then orchestrated a double steal. Ariel De Los Santos singled to plate Navarro and Brossman, while Johnson's double brought in De Los Santos. That finished it up for the Kernels, but the Snappers were in a big hole with one inning left to play.

Ben Revere would single a line drive out to center with one out on the board, but Deibinson Romero ground into a force out. Ozzie Lewis then doubled in Romero, but Santiago would ground out to end the game.

Yersich was 3-for-3 with a walk, a pair of runs and a RBI. Lewis was 2-for-4 with 1 run and 1 RBI. Dolenc was 2-for-3 with a RBI.

Joe Benson has a stress fracture in his back, something he has been battling for over a month. Chris Parmelee, the team's home run and RBI leader, injured his wrist while running into the wall during the team's recent road trip. Both will be out of the Snappers line up for at least a month.

Reinforcements are due as well, but Jair Fernandez, Ramon Santana and Paul Kelly are all injured as well, while Santiago, who had a minor injury to his hand, was able to play.

Johnson City 14 at Elizabethton 4

Danny Berlind lasted only 2-1 innings allowing 11 runs on 7 hits and 5 walks. He'd strike out four. Omar Alcala would replace him on the mound and would give up another 3 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out three.

Elizabethton actually out hit the Redbirds, but could not convert get them in clumps, leaving 8 man stranded during the game.

Jon Waltenbury would double in the bottom of the fourth and Mike Harrington would draw a walk. A wild pitch moved the pair. Danny Rams would single to plate Waltenbury and another wild pitch would put Rams at 2nd. Angel Morales would strike out swinging, but Alex Soto then blasted his 4th home run of the season over the right field wall.

That would be all the scoring for the E-Twins though.

Rams and James Beresford were both 2-for-3, Rams with a run and a run batted in. Morales was 2 for 4. Everyone else had at lead a single with Waltenbury and Papasan knocking doubles.

The Twins host the Cardinals on Saturday for a 7:00 PM game before heading out on the road to face the Burlington Royals.

Soto goes yard twice to lead the E-Twins over Bluefield

The mountain air obviously agrees with the Elizabethton Twins. Once again they knocked out a copious amount of runs against the Bluefield Orioles.

Bluefield actually got on the scoreboard first, with Brian Conley and Rodolfo Cardona singling off E-Twins starter Dan Osterbrook. Conley would score on Lance West's ground out, but a strike out to Elvin Polanco and a ground out to Ronnie Welty left Cardona stranded.

Evan Bigley singled out to left to get on base for the E-Twins in the top of the second. One out later Alex Soto pumped one out of the park for a pair of runs.

Levi Carolus doubled in the bottom of the stanza and, two outs later, came in on Luis Bernardo's single to tie the game.

Michael Harrington put his second home run of the season over the right field wall in the top of the 4th to restore the E-Twins lead.

Travis Keating took over the mound from Eddie Gamboa, who had done a fairly good job of keeping the E-Twins contained allowing only 5 hits while striking out 3.

Keating would get Soto out on strikes but Dominic De La Osa reached on a throwing error by Keating. Jeanfred Brito drew a walk, and Andrew Schmiesing's single drove in De La Osa. Jonathan Waltenbury reached on a force attempt that went awry when Rodolfo Cardona missed the catch. Brito would score on the play. Rene Leveret singled to drive in Schmiesing. Another error, this one by Orioles shortstop Robert Stevens allowed Harrington to reach to load the bags. Bigley would ground into a force out that scored Waltenbury, giving the Twins a 7-2 lead.

It was short lived. Lee Martin would allow a single to Jason Rook to lead off in the bottom of the seventh. A fielding error by De La Osa allowed Stevens on base before Bernardo was called out on strikes. Brian Conley then walked to load the bags. Cardona doubled to drive in 2. Martin would get West out swinging, but Polanco doubled to drive in two more. Ronnie Welty singled to score Polanco, tying up the game, and Levi Carolus would plate Welty to put the Orioles on top again.

Andrew Schmiesing singled off Bluefield's Brian Sisk. Waltenbury's follow up single moved him to 2nd, and Leveret's ground out advanced the pair. Harrington would ground out, but Schmiesing would score to tie up the contest, sending it into extra innings.

In the top of the llth with one out, Leveret would reach on a fielding error by Conley. A wild pitch by Sisk moved him to second. The speedy Angel Morales would go in as a pinch runner for the lumbering Leveret. Harrington would get plunked by a pitch, and Bigley would reach on a failed force attempt. Cardona's throwing error allowed Morales and Harrington to score. Juan Richardson double in Bigley, and Soto blasted his 2nd home run of the night over the left center field wall.

The six runs in the 11th would prove impossible for the Orioles to overcome as Danny Rondon used three ground outs to closed down the game.

Schmiesing finish up 3-for-6 with a pair of runs, a walk and a RBI. Soto was 2-for-6 with 2 runs, and 4 RBIs. Leveret was also 2-for-6, but with 1 RBI. Waltenbury was 2-for-7 with a run and a run scored.

The E-Twins play one more at Bluefield, before returning home to face Johnson City. The 6-2 Cardinals trail the E-Twins by one game in the Appy West standings.

DSL Reds 0 at DSL Twins 3

The DSL Twins blanked the DSL Red, 3-0 Tuesday at home. Ramon Acosta pick up his fourth win of the season, allowing only 1 hit while fanning 5 over 7 innings. Edison Alvarez nabbed is 5th save of 2008, striking out 2 in the ninth to preserve the win.

Jairo Rodriguez reached on a fielding error in the bottom of the 3rd, then stole 2nd base. Xavier Gonzalez singled to move Rodriguez to 3rd. He'd score when Yancarlo Franco ground into a force out that took Gonzalez out at 2nd. Carlos Vasquez would ground out and Jhonatan Arias fly out to leave Franco stranded however.

With two outs on the board in the bottom of the six, Jairo Perez would be hit by a pitch. Eliel Sierra would single his way onto base before Felix Cara tripled to drive in two.

Caro finished up 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, while Gonzalez went 2-for-3. Perez and Sierra had the other two hits for the Twins.

The DSL Twins will pay a visit to the DSL Rockies on Wednesday for a 10:30 AM Dominican Time game in which they will likely get trounced.
