From RBraves.com: Richmond left fielder Doug Clark singled to left to lead off the Braves’ fifth inning. The next batter, Carlos Mendez, drilled a double down the left field line to score Clark, giving the Braves a 1-0 lead.
Rochester finally scored with two outs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at one. The Red Wings’ Glenn Williams singled back to the pitcher for the infield hit. Gil Velazquez entered the game to pinch run for Williams. Velazquez then advanced to second when Tommy Watkins walked. Trent Oeltjen connected on a 1-0 pitch to tie the game at 1-1, with his two-out RBI single to center.
The Braves came right back in the bottom of the seventh. Clark collected a one-out double to start the Braves’ rally. After intentionally walking Mendez, Rochester reliever Bobby Korecky got Corky Miller to line out for the second out of the inning. With two-outs, Jonathan Schuerholz came through in the clutch for the Braves, singling home Clark for the game-winning run.
Braves’ starter Buddy Carlyle extended his scoreless-inning streak to 30.1 innings after not allowing a run in his 6.2 innings in the first game of Thursday’s double header. After nearly a month of scoreless ball, Carlyle finally allowed his first run since April 20 with two outs in the top of the seventh. Manny Acosta came on to get the Red Wings’ last batter to pick up his fourth win of the season. Acosta improved to 4-1 with a 0.84 ERA.
Bobby Korecky fell to 1-2 with a 4.80 ERA in his 16 games for Rochester. The Red Wings’ starter Jeremy Cummings didn’t come back out for the third inning and left the game after just two innings. Brian Bass and Ricky Barrett each saw action for Rochester. Bass allowed the first Braves’ run in his two and one-third innings of work. Barrett pitched one and two-thirds scoreless innings for the Red Wings.
The Braves were lead offensively by Doug Clark, who finished the first game 3-for-3 and scored each of the Braves two runs. Jonathan Schuerholz was 2-for-3 and drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Carlos Mendez was 1-for-2 and drove in his 13th run of the season.

From rbraves.com: Gregor Blanco led off the second game with a single to left field. Blanco advanced to second on T.J. Bohn’s walk. Both runners advanced a batter later on a pass ball by the Red Wings’ starter Matt Garza. Graham Koonce picked up Blanco with his one-out RBI single to right, to give the Braves an early 1-0 lead. Richmond tacked on another run when Doug Clark grounded out to first baseman Glenn Williams to give the Braves a two-run advantage.
The Red Wings’ Doug Deeds came back to tie the game at two with his two-out, two-run home run in the fourth. Deeds scored Jose Morales, who reached earlier in the inning, on his home run.
Braves third baseman Wes Timmons led off the bottom of the fifth with his third double of the season. He was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jonathan Schuerholz. With two outs, T.J. Bohn singled home Timmons to give the Braves a 3-2 lead. On the next pitch, Yunel Escobar chased home Bohn with his two-out triple, giving the Braves a 4-2 lead.
In his first game back from Atlanta, Richmond starter Kevin Barry pitched two and one-third scoreless innings. He allowed two walks and two hits but struck out three and was pulled after he reached his pitch-count for the game. Richmond reliever Phil Stockman came on and allowed two earned runs in one and one-third inning before being replaced by newly acquired Rheal Cormier. Cormier didn’t allow a run in two innings in his first appearance for the Braves to pick up the win. Blaine Boyer came onto the close it for the Braves. He picked up his first save of the season in his fourth relief appearance.
Rochester starter Matt Garza allowed four earned runs in six innings to drop the decision and fall to 2-3 with a 4.07 ERA.
The Braves will look for the series victory when they wrap up the four-game set with the Red Wings on Friday. Richmond will send RHP Trey Hodges (1-2, 2.48 ERA) to the mound to battle Rochester RHP Scott Baker (3-2, 3.16 ERA). Start time for the series finale is 7:00 p.m.

From redwingsbaseball.com: The Rochester Red Wings dropped a doubleheader at The Diamond in Richmond, Va., on Thursday night, losing 2-1 and 4-3 to the Braves.
In Game 1, Jonathan Schuerholz lined a two-out single off Bobby Korecky in the bottom of the seventh (and final) inning to score Doug Clark with the winning run. Rochester had tied the game on Trent Oeltjen's two-out single in the top of the seventh. In the nightcap, the Braves scored two runs off Matt Garza in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie, then held on for the sweep. The Wings play a pair of doubleheaders this weekend in Norfolk.
The Wings are 5-11 since a torrid 14-4 start. Richmond (26-11) has the best record in Triple-A. Wings Game 1 starter Jeremy Cummings sailed through two innings before leaving with an apparent hamstring injury. The right-hander allowed only one hit and struck out three before giving way to Brian Bass. Clark singled to open the Braves' fifth, then scored on a double by Carlos Mendez.
It remained 1-0 through six, behind red-hot Buddy Carlyle.
In the seventh inning — the final regularly scheduled inning — Rochester's Glenn Williams beat out an infield bunt with one out and was replaced by pinch-runner Gil Velazquez. But when Carlyle retired Jose Morales on a fly to center, it appeared the Wings would be shut out. Instead, Tommy Watkins drew a walk and Oeltjen lined a game-tying single to left. It broke a scoreless string of 30 innings by Carlyle, who had not allowed a run since April 20. Braves closer Manny Acosta relieved Carlyle and ended the inning by retiring Matt Tolbert.
In the bottom of the seventh, T.J. Bohn drilled a fly to straightaway center but Denard Span made an over-the-shoulder catch on the warning track. Clark followed with a double down the right-field line and Mendez was walked intentionally. Former Red Wing Corky Miller then lined a shot to Oeltjen in right, but Schuerholz laced a Korecky pitch to the right-center gap to win it.
In the nightcap, the Braves scored twice off Garza in the first. Graham Koonce singled in a run, and another scored on Clark's groundout. Doug Deeds tied it for Rochester with a two-run homer to right in the fourth inning. The Braves took control in the fifth. Wes Timmons led off with a double after Watkins tried to make a shoestring catch of his sinking liner. He moved to third on Schuerholz's sacrifice bunt, then scored one out later on T.J. Bohn's single to center. When Yunel Escobar tripled to right, the Braves were ahead 4-2. The Wings cut the lead to one on a sacrifice fly by Matthew LeCroy in the seventh, but they stranded the tying run at third when Blaine Boyer struck out Williams to end the game. Matt Moses had singled, then moved two bases on a pair of wild pitches by Boyer.
NOTES: New Wings reliever J.P. Martinez went to high school with NY Giants quarterback Eli Manning....The Red Wings' road record dropped to 10-6 record...Thursday's doubleheader at Richmond was the third of 11 doubleheaders the Red Wings have scheduled so far this season - the most Rochester has had in a season since 1996, when the club played 20 doubleheaders.

From rockcats.com: The Rock Cats combined timely hitting and impressive pitching – and clawed back for yet another comeback – to sweep a double header from Harrisburg at New Britain Stadium.
In the first game, Trevor Plouffe doubled to left field to score Brandon Roberts in the ninth inning to give the Rock Cats a 4-3 win. Brad Baker tossed 6 1/3 solid innings, limiting the Senators to two runs on three hits. He struck out seven. Jay Sawatski added an inning of scoreless relief before Tim Lahey allowed one run in 1 1/3 innings. Lahey (1-0) still picked up the win.
Plouffe led the Rock Cats with three hits, including two doubles. Brandon Roberts also had a three-hit day, including an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh that tied the game and sent the scheduled 7-inning game into extra frames. In the ninth, Rashad Eldridge singled, moved to second on Korey Feiner's sac bunt, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Roberts knocked in Eldridge to tie tha game again, this time 3-3. Roberts stole second base before scoring on Plouffe's game-winning RBI double.
Brock Peterson added an RBI single in the fourth inning.

From rockcats.com: In the second game, the Rock Cats were led by Brian Buscher (3-for-4, 2 runs) and Garrett Guzman (2-for-3). Rock Cats starter Jesse Floyd (2-3) fired six strong innings. He allowed eight hits, but limited the Senators to two runs and struck out six.
The Rock Cats got on the board early with an RBI single by Peterson and RBI double by David Winfree. The 'Cats struck again in the third. With the bases loaded, Guzman delivered an RBI single. Peterson then scored when Feiner was hit by a pitch. Luke Hughes added an RBI single and Guzman scored on a ground out by Eldridge to give the Rock Cats a 6-0 lead.
Harrisburg’s Rogearvin had a solo homer in the fifth inning. Michael Hinkley (4-4) suffered the loss.

From miraclebaseball.com: The calm before the storm on Thursday night went back and forth all night long before the Fort Myers Miracle put up four runs in the top of the ninth to snag an 8-5 victory over the Tampa Yankees. Edward Ovalle completed the night 4-for-4 with four singles, a RBI and three runs scored as the Miracle win their third-in-a-row.
Tampa drew first blood with a run in the opening inning. After a leadoff double from Reegie Corona, a wild pitch and ground out from Jose Tabata, the Yankees would have a their quick 1-0 lead. The Miracle would grab their first of three advantages on the night with a bases-loaded, two-out, two-run single off the bat of Caleb Moore in the second putting the good guys ahead 2-1.
After a pair of Tampa runs in the fourth gave them a 3-2 lead, the Miracle came charging back again with runs in the fourth and sixth innings for a 4-3 margin. In the fourth, Eli Tintor’s single to right would plate Ovalle with the tying run while Ovalle would pick up his RBI on the night with a single to center. Whit Robbins, who smacked a one-out double in the sixth, plated on Ovalle’s base hit.
Trailing 4-3 at stretch time on Thursday, the Yanks would even things at four with Juan Miranda’s fielder’s choice scoring Tim Battle from third. With one out in the ninth, Ovalle would slap his fourth hit on the night cueing the final Miracle comeback.
After back-to-back walks by Dwayne White and Tintor loaded the bases, Moore would register his third RBI on the night reaching on a fielder’s choice to first. A bases-loaded walk by Luis Ugueto would score White with a second insurance run before Erik Lis pulled a two-out single to right plating Tintor and Moore with the final two tallies.
Tampa would score a run in the ninth and further threaten, but Eddie Morlan would end up shutting the door saving his fifth ball game of the season. After reliever David Shinskie fanned Reegie Corona to begin the frame, the Yankees would follow with three-straight hits against Shinskie to score their lone run and bring the tying run to the plate.
Juan Miranda picked up the RBI-single that brought in Battle and ended the night for Shinskie. Morlan would then retire Edwar Gonzalez on strikes before a lengthy at-bat by James Cooper ended the ball game on a pop out to Portes at third.
Game two of the series will take place on Friday night at Legends Field with more than 8,000 fans expected to turn out as Roger Clemens will begin his climb to the majors against the Miracle. With Kyle Waldrop recently being promoted to double-A New Britain, RHP Yohan Pino (0-1, 1.62) will get the start for the Miracle on Friday night.

ECHL Hockey: The Florida Everblades forced game 7 in the Eastern Conference finals be defeating the Dayton Bombers, 6-3 at Germain Arena. Dustin Johner and Vince Belllismo each netted two goal apiece, while Craig Kowalski kicked out 26 Bombers shots to preserve the win. Game 7 is tonight at Germain Arena.

From peoriachiefs.com: The Peoria Chiefs dropped a second straight one-run game to the Beloit Snappers 2-1 at O’Brien Field on Thursday afternoon. The loss drops the Chiefs to 20-18 on the season and 7-9 at home this season.
The Chiefs had an early scoring opportunity in the first inning after a lead off walk to Matt Camp followed by an infield single by Jim Adduci. Josh Lansford moved both runners over with a sacrifice bunt but Yusuf Carter popped out to second and Alfred Joseph grounded out to second to end the inning.
Danny Valencia led off the fourth inning with a double and quickly came around to score after the next batter Johnny Woodard singled to center to make the score 1-0
Catcher Matt Canepa reached on an error by the third basemen Garrett Olson in the fifth inning and was moved over by a sacrifice bunt by Jonathon Mota. Lansford tied the game with a single that bounced off the bag at third allowing Canepa to score from third base to tie the game 1-1.
The Snappers added a run in the seventh inning after three straight singles by Joe Benson, Chris Parmelee and an RBI single by Garrett Olson off Chiefs reliever Marco Carrillo to extend the lead to 2-1.
Lansford came through for the Chiefs in the eighth inning with a double down the right field line to get the tying run into scoring position. Yusuf Carter singled off the glove of the reliever Armando Gabino to give the Chiefs runners at the corners with just one out but Alfred Joseph grounded into an inning ending double play.
Chiefs starter Jose Pina had his best outing of the season allowing just one run on four hits over a season high six innings. Carrillo took the loss allowing one run on three hits over the game’s final three innings. Dan Leatherman worked two shut out innings out of the bullpen to pick his fourth win of the season. Closer Rob Delaney picked up the save for the second straight game and now leads the league with 12 saves.
Notes…The DARE Day crowd of 8,622 was the largest of the season at O’Brien Field and the fifth largest crowd in the stadium’s history…The Chiefs stranded 14 runners on base…Matt Camp’s hitting streak was snapped at 10 games… The Chiefs have scored just one run in the last 18 innings of play…The Chiefs and Snappers will conclude the series on Friday night at O’Brien Field…Friday is Pink at the Park Night at 6:30 PM with the players using pink bats and wearing pink uniforms that will be auctioned off during and after the game to benefit the Susan G Komen Foundation…There will be a Fireworks show after the game…The Chiefs will send RHP Jake Renshaw (3-0, 2.54 ERA) to the mound against RHP Danny Vais (2-1 5.23 ERA)…The game can be heard live beginning with the pre-game at 6:15 PM online at http://www.peoriachiefs.com or on WOAM 1350 AM.
