Rochester 4 at Indianapolis 8

Record 29-26

W: J. Chavez (3-1, 4.45); L: J. Mijares (0-1, 6.23)
HR: IND: N. Green (3).

E: Feiner (1, throw).

From redwingsbaseball.com: Nick Green's leadoff home run and Brian Bixler's second triple of the game sparked Indianapolis' four-run eighth inning as Indianapolis doubled up visiting Rochester 8-4 on Wednesday afternoon. Matt Tolbert had five hits for the Red Wings.

Green's dinger, his third of the season, snapped a 4-4 tie. Bixler followed with a triple to left field, which tied him for the league lead with seven on the year, and came home on Russ Johnson's infield single. The Indians (36-22), winners of five straight, went on to plate two unearned runs as a result of catcher Korey Feiner's throwing error.

Indianapolis scored four runs in the first against Rochester's Matt Garza. Green, the Indians' leadoff hitter, capped a 12-pitch at-bat with a double to left field. Bixler then tripled, and Yurendell DeCaster followed with a sacrifice fly. Michael Ryan's two-run single accounted for the frame's final two runs.

The Red Wings' offense was led by second baseman Tolbert, who had a career-high five hits. The 25-year-old doubled and scored in the fourth, drove in two with a game-tying two-bagger in the fifth and singled three times.

Four Indianapolis relievers combined to toss 4 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of starter Shane Youman, who allowed four runs on five hits over 4 1/3 frames. Jesse Chavez (3-1) hurled a scoreless eighth inning and earned the win.

Jose Mijares (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs -- two earned -- on two hits and a walk over one-plus innings of work. Garza settled into a groove after his rocky beginning, as the 23-year-old right-hander kept Rochester in the game by retiring the final 16 batters he faced.

W: T. Crawford (6-3, 3.59); L: W. Starling (2-5, 6.62)
HR: ALT: S. Pearce (4).

E: Buscher (10, throw).

From rockcats.com: New Britain used a seven-run first inning and another superb outing by Tristan Crawford to down Altoona 8-2.

The Rock Cats jumped out to an early lead by putting seven runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Altoona’s Wardell Starling retired the first two batters before things quickly got out of control. Brian Buscher singled and Brock Peterson was hit by a pitch. Garrett Guzman’s single to right field knocked in Buscher for the 1-0 lead. David Winfree then reached base on another hit by pitch. Matthew Allegra then lined a two-run single to center field and Kyle Geiger followed with a two-run double. Luke Hughes added an RBI double before Starling walked the next three batters, including walking in Hughes for another Rock Cats’ run for a 7-0 advantage. Altoona’s Justin Vaclavik came on relief and retired Brock Peterson on a ground out for the final out of the inning.

Buscher added an RBI single in the third inning. He finished the night with three hits and two walks. Hughes also had three hits, including two doubles.

Tristan Crawford (6-3) limited the Curve to one run on four hits through seven innings. The lone run he surrendered was a solo homer by Steven Pearce in the top of the second. Danny Powers added one inning of shutout relief and J.P. Martinez allowed one unearned run in the ninth.

For Altoona, Vaclavik tossed 4 1/3 innings in relief, allowing one run on four hits. He struck out four. Starling (2-5) finished the night with a line of five hits, three walks, and seven runs in 2/3 innings.

Vero Beach 2 at Fort Myers 3

Record 25 - 33

W: D. Shinskie (4-2, 4.11); L: E. De La Cruz (3-3, 2.77)
HR: FTM: E. Lis (5).

In the end, the Fort Myers Miracle nearly lost on a bad call. Neil Walton singled to right field to get on base, and came home on a wild pitch by Zack Ward. He should have been out at the plate, but the umpire ruled him safe.

Erik Lis homered for the Miracle in the 4th, after Alex Jamieson plated Aaron Sisk at the top of that inning, making it 2-1, Devil Rays. Vero Beach would hang on to that lead, and the Miracle would manage no more hits until the ninth inning.

Not even American League batting champion Joe Mauer was much help on the offensive front, having gone 0-for-3 when he came up at the top of the ninth. Mauer took a walk, and was replaced by pinch runner Caleb Moore. Lis singled to Garrett Groce...it should have been a fly out, but Groce dropped the ball, giving the Miracle only their third hit of the night. Dwayne White walked to load the bases.

With one out, Whit Robbins hit a sac fly that brought Moore home to tie the game. Javi Sanchez singled to Neil Walton - another easy out - but Walton missed the throw to second, allowing Edward Ovalle, who was pinch running for Lis, to cross the plate and hand the Miracle a 3-2 win over Vero Beach.

Ward allowed both Devil Rays runs on 8 hits and 2 walks while striking out 9 in 6 innings worth of work. David Shinskie picked up the win, allowing 2 more hits while walking 1 and striking out 2 in 3 innings worth of work.

Miracle coach Kevin Boles watched a portion of the game from the stands with a patch over one eye. The circulating rumor was that Boles had informed Mauer he was being convered to a 3rd baseman and Mauer punched him. The truth was the Boles underwent eye surgey in the morning to correct a spot on his retina. Batting coach Jim Dwyer handled the managieral duties for the night.

Also absent was Miracle public address announcer Gary Sharp, who is off on his honeymoon. Porno promoter Ted Fitzgeorge filled in and will be filling in (sadly) for the remainder of the homestand.

The two teams rematch tomorrow with Jay Rainville (2-6, 3.05) on the mound for Fort Myers, while Mike Wlodarczyk (3-1, 3.49) handles the pitching duties for Vero Beach. Javi Sanchez is expected to handle the catching duties tomorrow.

Injury Update: Paul Kelly said he is to resume jogging next week and should start to play again in a couple or three weeks. Drew Thompson has not year received his clearance to start his rehab activities.

MWL All-stars: Pitchers Cole DeVries and Alex Burnett and 3rd baseman Danny Valencia were all added to the Midwest League All-star game on Wednesday. The three join starter Jeff Manship, ace closer Rob Delaney and Snappers 2nd baseman Brian Dinkleman on June 19th at Elfstrom Field in Geneva, Ill.
