Garrett Olson's ninth inning home run helped the Beloit Snappers to a soggy 8-6 win over the Quad Cities River Bandits Saturday at Modern Woodman Park.
Ben Revere doubled to open up the game, moved to 3rd on a sac-bunt by Chris Cates and came in on an Olson single. The River Bandits would not answer back until the bottom of the 3rd, when D'Marcus Ingram singled, and advanced to 2nd on Olson's throwing error. Following a strike out to Nicholas Peoples, Mike Folli would single to score Ingram.
In the top of the fifth, Beloit seized control of the game with a two-out rally. With men at first and second and two away, Brian Broderick was nearly out of the inning when Cates slapped a run-scoring single into center. Olson followed with a two-run triple into the right field corner, while Chris Parmelee capped the rally with a base hit that plated Olson and gave the Snappers a 5-1 lead.
Mike Tarsi would work six innings for Beloit, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits and a walk while striking out 4.
Trailing 8-5, the River Bandits nearly pulled off a successful rally in the bottom of the ninth, as Folli and Pete Kozma opened the inning with back-to-back singles before reliever Matt Williams was pulled in favor of Spencer Steedley. Charlie Kingrey greeted the southpaw with an RBI-single to right that made it a two-run contest. One out later Tommy Pham drew a walk to load the bases, but the Snappers turned to Loek Van Mil - the third pitcher of the inning - and the 7-foot-1 Dutchman induced a game-ending double play from Paul Vazquez to secure the Snappers victory.
Olson would finish up 4-for-5 in the contest, with 3 runs, and 4 RBIs and would be a double short of the cycle. Revere, Chris Cates and Esterlin De Los Santos were all 2-for-4, Revere with a double and 2 runs, Cates with 2 runs and a run scored, De Lo with one run.
Ozzie Lewis and Greg Yersich were the one hit wonders for the night. Jair Fernandez would knock in 2 runs on one hit through 5 at bats. Parmalee picked up one run scored while going 1-for-4 at the plate with a walk.
B.A.M.'s reporting fell apart in the middle of the game although the box score is final.
The two teams rematch tomorrow on Super Father's Day Sunday. First pitch is slated for 1:00 PM central time, rain permitting.
