Denard Span is congratulated Tuesday after scoring in the Wing's 3-1 win over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
From redwingsbaseball.com/Milb.com: Brian Bass turned in another clutch performance on the mound, leading the Red Wings to a 3-1 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Red Wings Tuesday night at Frontier Field. The win put the Wings into second place, one game behind the first place Yankees.
Wings right-handed starter Bass matched up with Scranton righty Matt DeSalvo, who has spent time with both Scranton and the parent New York Yankees this season. DeSalvo, was making his second start since being sent down from New York July 24 a With one out in the first inning Matt Tolbert drew a walk, and moved to third on Darnell McDonald's single to right. Garrett Jones grounded out to first baseman Eric Duncan for the second out, but Duncan's throw to second attempting to nab McDonald was late. Tolbert scored on the RBI ground out by Jones, and the Wings led 1-0.
The Red Wings added a pair of runs in the third inning. McDonald laced a run-scoring single to knock in Denard Span, and Chris Heintz followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home Tolbert for a 3-0 Rochester lead..
Bass, 1-1 in five starts after beginning the season in the Red Wings bullpen, brought a scoreless streak of 9 1/3 innings into the contest. Bass added to that streak while facing one batter over the minimum through four innings. Bass walked Erubiel Durazo to start the fifth inning, but quickly got the next three outs to bring play into the sixth.
The Yankees put together a threat in the sixth, but Bass picked Juan Francia off second base and Heintz started an inning-ending double play with two runners on base to keep Scranton off the board. Bass bounced back with three quick outs in the seventh, including a strikeout of Alberto Gonzalez to end the inning.
When Eric Duncan led off the eighth with an opposite field double to left, the Wings bullpen got active. Raul Chavez followed with a perfect bunt hit, moving Duncan to third. Francia hit a chopper to third, with Heintz forcing Chavez at first and Duncan scoring to end the shutout bid. The run in the 7th broke a 16 and two-thirds inning scoreless streak by Bass. After Bass was pulled, Bobby Korecky made a fantastic play on a surprise bunt sliding across the infield grass to end the inning.
In the bottom of the 8th, the Wings loaded the bases on a single by McDonald, a hit by pitch by Heintz and a walk by Tommy Watkins. On a 3-2 pitch, Doug Deeds chased a changeup low and out of the zone, striking out and stranding the three runners.
With Korecky on the mound, the Wings allowed a single but got another double play to move within an out of victory. Korecky walked Durazo and proceeded to strike out Alberto Gonzalez to end the game, earning his 30th save of the season, the first time ever a Red Wings pitcher has recorded 30 saves in a season.
NOTES: With Durham's loss to Indianapolis Tuesday night, the Wings pulled ahead of Durham and Buffalo for the IL wild card spot...This is the closest the Wings have been to first place since June 29...RHP Nick Blackburn (DL) is scheduled to be activated and pitch Friday night in Pawtucket...Scranton pitcher Joba Chamberlain was not in uniform Tuesday night.

Yankees photog Big Mark made is first trip to Hammond Stadium for Strike out Jason Giambi Night
I dislike sitting around in wet shoes and socks and so I went out and got a pair of crocks to wear on rainy nights. I have big feet and the only pair they had in my size was yellow. So that's what I got.
So I get to the stadium and everyone is like "Oh, those are really nice! But how come you got...yellow?" Believe me, it wasn't my first choice of colors. Linda proceeds to tell me that Tru Value Hardware has a whole wall full of them in every color of the rainbow including light pink, which is the color she wants.
Given a choice between light pink and yellow, I'll stick with the yellow, thanks. So I look like a duck.
It was fitting.
It's also impossible to buy only ONE hotdog in Hammond Stadium on 2-for-Tuesday. ::sigh::
They actually called the game early. We will play 2 on Wednesday, starting at 5:05, weather permitting.
This will give me time to go through my prospect set now and see if I have any Blue Jays or Tigers that I need to get signed.

W: T. Robertson (6-2, 1.78); L: S. Delabar (2-4, 5.16); SV: A. Slama (6)
HR: None
E: Benson (6, throw).
From wizardsbaseball.com: The Beloit Snappers took advantage of some early wildness on the part of Fort Wayne starting pitcher Stevie Delabar in the top of the second inning on Tuesday night, sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring four runs, in defeating the Wizards for the second night in a row, this time by a score of 7-4, in front of 4,710 fans at Memorial Stadium.
Delabar got himself into early trouble in the second inning, giving up back-to-back singles to Matt Betsill and Eli Tintor and hitting Danny Santiestaban with a pitch to allow Beloit to load the bases with nobody out.
Steve Singleton hit a screeching line drive that Delabar snared for the first out of the inning.
A single by Chris Cates scored Betsill from third base with the first run of the game, and Joe Benson followed with a single to centerfield to score both Tintor and Santiestaban to put the Snappers ahead by a score of 3-0.
Delabar hit both Garrett Olson and Wilson Ramos with a pitch (bringing to four the number of Beloit batters hit by a pitch in the contest), resulting in both another Snapper run crossing the plate and some tense feelings evolving from the Beloit dugout.
Delabar was able to retire the next two batters to finally bring the second inning to a close, the score 4-0 in favor of the visitors.
Fort Wayne reduced the deficit to 4-2, as they scored a run in both the fourth and fifth inning on two-out singles from Jeremy Hunt and Cedric Hunter, respectively, off Beloit starter Tyler Robertson.
The Snappers responded by scoring twice in the sixth inning against Wizard relief pitcher Derek McDaid, and once more in the eighth off Fort Wayne reliever Rolando Valdez to build the lead back up to 7-2.
The Wizards trimmed the deficit to 7-4 when they scored a pair of runs against Beloit relief pitcher Dan Leatherman in the bottom of the eighth inning, but could come no closer, as they lost for the 10th time in their last 12 games.
Robertson (6-2), who gave up two runs on four hits, walked three, and struck out nine in six innings on the mound, received credit for the victory.
Delabar (2-4), who allowed four runs on five hits, didn’t walk anybody, struck out one, and hit four batters with a pitch in 2 1/3 innings of work, was tagged with the defeat.
Fort Wayne will meet Beloit again on Wednesday night in the third game of the four-game series.
Left-hander Cory Luebke (0-0, 0.00), the Big 10 Pitcher of the Year from Ohio State University who was promoted from Eugene of the Northwest League on Tuesday, will make his Wizard and Midwest League debut.
The Snappers will start right-hander Alex Burnett (6-6, 2.90).
The game can be heard on both the radio (ESPN Radio 1380) and the Internet (http://www.fortwaynewizards.com), beginning with the Hupe Insurance Services Pre-Game Show at 6:40 p.m. (EDT).
