CARLOS ORTIZ RDC staff photographer - Red Wings starter Kevin Slowey pauses for the national anthem before Thursday night's game at Frontier Field against the Toledo Mud Hens. Slowey allowed just three hits over nine innings, and he didn't walk a batter, but still came out on the short end of a 2-1 decision.

From redwings.com: Toledo's Yorman Bazardo shut down the Red Wings in a 2-1 win Thursday night at Frontier Field. Rochester's Kevin Slowey pitched a complete game three-hitter with seven strikeouts. The Wings head down the Thruway for a two-game set in Buffalo before returning to Frontier Sunday afternoon and Monday night.
Slowey had an uncharecteristically rough start: after not allowing a first inning run this season, he yielded a homer to Ramon Santiago on the second pitch of the game. The ball went over the right field fence and into the Wings bullpen, putting the Hens ahead 1-0. Slowey's opponent on the mound was Bazardo, whose 2007 season effort included a 9.00 first inning ERA (10 hits and six runs in six first innings pitched). The Red Wings looked to get even quick, after Denard Span drew a leadoff walk then stole second base. But Bazardo settled down to get the next three outs and escape the first inning.
Slowey (3-2) returned to form in the second and the game became a pitchers duel. Slowey retired 20 straight batters following the home run. Ryan Raburn, leading the league in extra base hits, doubled to right in the seventh with two outs. Jack Hannahan singled Raburn home for a 2-0 lead. .
Bazardo (2-3) , after the Span walk, retired 11 straight including three strikeouts in a row at one point. Bazardo finally surrendered a hit in the bottom of the fifth, with Matt Moses singling and advancing to second on a fielder's choice. Moses was stranded, and the Wings had another great shot the next inning - when Alexi Casilla drew a walk from Bazardo. But Lew Ford hit into a double play and Bazardo retired Garrett Jones on a ground out to retire the side. Toledo turned another double play in the seventh, again negating a leadoff walk and retaining their 2-0 lead.
Trent Oeltjen drilled a 1-1 Bazardo pitch down the first base line for a double to start the Rochester eighth, just the second hit of the game for the Wings. Matt Tolbert moved Oeltjen to third with a ground ball out to the right side, but Bazardo caught Span looking and retired Casilla to end the eighth.
Slowey came out of the dugout to start the ninth, and struck out two batters before getting a fly ball final out. When Bazardo exited after eight, Ford homered off reliever Jason Karnuth in the ninth to get the Wings on the scoreboard. Jones followed with a single, but Karnuth (1st save) fanned Tommy Watkins and Jose Morales and retired Moses to end the game.
Bazardo allowed two hits over eight shutout innings, walking five and striking out six.
NOTES: Center fielder Ford made two nice plays to take away hits from David Espinosa, running down a drive to the gap in left-center in the second inning and going straight back at full speed to snag Espinosa's shot in the eighth. Ford will end his rehab assignment and rejoin Minnesota Friday...
Alexi Casilla has family and friends visiting from the Dominicnan Republic - their first visit to the States...Tolbert entered the game leading the International League in batting, on-base percentage and slugging percentage while tied for the lead in triples...

Wednesday night’s seven-run sixth inning was the most runs Rochester has scored in a game since July 21, 2005 at Charlotte when the Red Wings scored seven runs in the sixth inning in a 10-7 win. It was also the most runs Rochester has scored in an inning at Frontier Field since August 30, 2004 vs. Pawtucket when the Red Wings scored nine runs in the seventh inning of a 21-5 win.

HR: NBR: M. Allegra (4). TRE: M. Carson (4).

From rockcats.com: The Rock Cats (15-12) stayed perfect on their two-city seven game road trip with a 3-2 victory Thursday night at Trenton (21-9). RF Matt Allegra drove in all three runs and Brad Baker took a no-hitter into the 5th inning while earning his second win and helping the Rock Cats to their season-high 4th win in-a-row.
The Rock Cats are now tied with the Portland Sea Dogs for 3rd place in the Northern Division.
Allegra stroked an RBI double scoring David Winfree in the second inning and then smashed a 2-run homer to left field in the 4th.
Meanwhile, the Rock Cats pitching staff continued to impress. Baker turned in a quality start (6 IP 2H 2R 2ER 2BB 3K) and relievers JP Martinez and Jose Mijares hurled three scoreless innings as the Rock Cats won in New Jersey for the first time since August 25, 2004. 2B Felix Molina extended his hit streak to a club-high 15 games with a single to right in his final at-bat in the 9th inning.
Friday the Rock Cats send RHP Nick Blackburn to the mound and Trenton counters with RHP Brett Smith.
The Rock Cats have done a nice job of continuing opponents losing streaks. On the road trip, New Britain sent Harrisburg to its 7th straight loss and Friday sent Trenton to its 5th consecutive loss.
Notes: J.P. Martinez and infielders Luke Hughes and Brock Peterson were suspended three games and fined $300 each for their parts in an on-field fight last Sunday against Trenton. See the Trentonian article referenced below for more details.

Fort Myers 4 at Brevard County 7
Record 12 - 22
W: Steve Garrison (2-2); L: Zachary Ward (0-5); SV: Luis Pena (4);
HR: Edward Ovalle (3)
E: Betsill (6, throw).
From miraclebaseball.com: The Brevard County Manatees came up with extra base hits and timely hitting at the right time on Thursday night to win their third-straight knocking off the visiting Fort Myers Miracle by a final score of 7-4 from Space Coast Stadium.
After a 1-0 ball game on Wednesday, both offenses showed up on Thursday night combining for 19 hits. The Manatees struck first with a pair of runs in the second as Mat Gamel would score on a Cole Gillespie’s triple to right and Gillespie himself would cross on Mike Bell’s ground out to second.
The Miracle would tally their first run in the fourth to cut the deficit in half. After Luis Ugueto led off with a single to left, catcher Javi Sanchez would soon follow reaching on a fielder’s choice, scoring Ugueto from third.
A Manatees run in the fifth and a pair of runs in the sixth would give the hosts a temporary four-run cushion at 5-1. The only Miracle error of the night, a throwing error by Matt Betsill at first, allowed Bell to score an unearned run from third in the fifth.
In the sixth, Chris Errecart would smack a triple to left and later come across on Angel Salome’s single back up the box. Salome scored the second run of the frame as Charlie Fermaint grounded out to Steve Tolleson at second.
A three-run seventh inning would bring the Miracle back to within one at 5-4. Edward Ovalle led off with his team-leading third home run of the season to make it 5-2. Toby Gardenhire would plate an unearned run on an Erik Lis single to right followed by Tolleson scoring on Juan Portes’ infield single to third.
Brevard County would tack on a pair of insurance runs in the seventh on Errecart’s RBI-double to left and Salome’s sacrifice fly to right. The Miracle would have a couple of tough breaks in Thursday night’s contest as Tolleson appeared to have his second home run of the season in the fifth. Tolleson’s fly ball to left appeared to hit above the yellow line, which would have resulted in a two-run homer. Instead, Tolleson would be credited with a double as Gardenhire ended up being thrown out at the plate on the play.
The Miracle and Manatees will square off in game three of the series on Friday night. A pair of right-handers will face each other beginning at 7 p.m. The Miracle will send Jay Rainville (2-3, 2.67) to the rubber against Jesse Harper (1-3, 4.76) of the Manatees.
