From redwingsbaseball.com: The Ottawa Lynx scored early on their way to a 4-2 win over the Red Wings Sunday afternoon at Frontier Field. Garrett Jones and Jose Morales drove in the Rochester runs; the Wings open a four-game series at home Monday night against the Toledo Mud Hens.

The Lynx scored a pair of first inning runs against Wings starter Jeremy Cummings, with Gary Burnham and Chris Coste contributing RBI hits. The Lynx added an unearned run in the third to go up 3-0.

Ottawa starter Zach Segovia didn't allow a hit until Trent Oeltjen's one-out single in the fifth. Oeltjen stole second but Segovia got the next two batters to get out of trouble. Ottawa added another run in the sixth, and in that inning Ricky Barrett replaced Cummings on the mound. The Red Wings got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, with run-scoring doubles from Jones and Morales making the score 4-2 Ottawa.

Barrett tossed 1 1/3 innings (one hit, one strikeout) in his first appearance of the season after missing time with an sore elbow.

With two outs and a runner on base in the ninth against Brian Sanches, Lew Ford doubled to set up runners at second and third; Sanches struck out Jones to end the threat and the game.

NOTES: Catcher Chris Heintz was pulled from the starting lineup right before game time, fueling speculation that he could be headed to Minnesota with Joe Mauer (strained quad muscle) awaiting results of a Sunday MRI test...Matt Tolbert entered the game leading the league in hitting; he went 0-for-3 with a walk Sunday to drop his average to .381 ...Jones is the Twins Minor League Player of the Month for April...Jones, 25, batted .338 (23-for-68) with six doubles, three home runs and 15 rbi...he also scored nine times in his 17 games...Beloit (A, Midwest League) righthanded pitcher Jeff Manship is the Twins Minor League Pitcher of the Month for April...in five games, Manship, 22, went 2-0 with a 0.84 ERA (32.0 ip, 3 er)...he walked just three batters while striking out 36 and holding opposing hitters to a .147 batting average...Manship was the Twins 14th round selection in the 2006 First-Year Player draft; on Saturday night Manship struck out nine in seven innings to help Beloit to an 8-1 win over Great Lakes.

Heintz was in fact recalled by the Twins, with Mauer being put on the 15-day DL, retro active to May 5th.

Trenton 9 at New Britain 0

From rockcats.com: Trenton starter Brett Smith extended his consecutive scoreless streak to 27 2/3 innings with six shutout innings and Shawn Garrett continued his hot hitting to lead the Thunder to a 4-0 victory over New Britain on Sunday afternoon.

Smith (3-0) limited the Rock Cats to four hits. He has not given up a run since allowing three runs in his first start of the season. Smith lowered his ERA to 0.92.

Rock Cats’ starter Nick Blackburn delivered one of his finest performances of the season, but didn’t receive the run support needed to pick up a win. Blackburn allowed six hits and no walks in seven innings. He struck out four.

Blackburn (2-1) retired the first eight of nine batters he faced, but hit a speed bump in the third inning. With two outs, he allowed back-to-back singles to Ramiro Pena and Carlos Mendoza. Jamal Strong then doubled to centerfield to clear the bases and put Trenton ahead 2-0. Strong scored on a single by Garrett for a 3-0 lead.

In the eighth inning, Garrett added a triple and then scored on Justin Christian’s single. Garrett finished the day with three hits.

In the top of the ninth inning, the benches cleared when Trenton’s Jason Brown charged the mound after Rock Cats’ reliever J.P. Martinez fired a pitch high and inside. Brown and Martinez exchanged punches before both were ejected from the game. Rock Cats’ shortstop Trevor Plouffe was also ejected. Danny Powers came on in relief of Martinez. The Thunder struck Powers for three consecutive singles, including an RBI single by Ramiro Pena to knock in Matt Carson for another Trenton run.

Rock Cats’ second baseman Felix Molina extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single to right field in the ninth inning. For Trenton, Edwar Ramirez tossed two shutout innings of relief with five strikeouts.

From miraclebaseball.com: A dropped fly ball by Dwayne White in right-field capped off a five-run fifth inning for the St. Lucie Mets as the Fort Myers Miracle dropped their ninth-straight ball game, 6-5 to the Mets on Sunday night at Tradition Field.

The first four to the plate in the Mets fifth would reach to begin the rally. Ryan Coultas had a lead-off single followed by a walk to Sean Henry and a hit-by-pitch to Jose Castro. St. Lucie’s Dustin Martin would draw a bases-loaded walk to score Coultas before another bases-loaded base on balls by Drew Butera would bring in Henry.

Emmanuel Garcia would cut the Miracle lead to 5-4 reaching on a fielder’s choice to second that would bring home Castro and put two outs on the board. Corey Coles followed with a fly ball to right-center field that should have ended the inning, but White had the ball clipped off the end of his glove allowing Martin and Garcia to score giving the Mets two un-earned runs and a 6-5 advantage.

St. Lucie started things off in the second inning as Coles would deliver with his RBI-single to left scoring Butera, who reached on a one-out double. The Miracle bats would remain quiet through the first three innings and finally awaken after a 50 minute rain delay on Sunday night.

After the delay, Juan Portes would jump back into the box down in the count 0-2. After battling back to load the count at 3-2, he began the fourth with a bloop single down the right-field line. Portes would later come around on Whit Robbins’ double off the wall in right tying the game at 1-1.

After Robbins’ double pushed Erik Lis to third, Jeff Christy would ground out softly to short scoring Lis, and give the Miracle a 2-1 lead. RBI-singles would also be picked up in the frame by White and Javi Sanchez to extend the lead to 4-1. Steve Tolleson made it a 5-1 in the fifth with his first home run of the year, a solo-shot to left, before the Mets rally in the fifth giving them their second-straight win.

The Miracle and Mets square off again on Monday night in game three of the four game series. The Miracle send RHP Kyle Waldrop (3-1, 3.45) to the hill opposite the Mets RHP Jose De La Torre (2-2, 5.24).

From loons.com: A 13-hit attack wasn’t enough for the Loons as the Beloit Snappers won the third game of a four-game series, sending the Loons to their sixth straight loss Sunday afternoon by a score of 7-6.

The Snappers scored a trio of runs in the third inning when Snappers right-fielder Chris Parmelee and third basemen Garrett Olsen drove in a pair of runs on an RBI-single and RBI groundout respectively to make it 2-0. Then a Preston Mattingly error led to a RBI-single by Allen De San Miguel. The Snappers would get three more runs in the sixth as well as the deciding run on a William Luque RBI-single in the seventh.

The Loons scored at least one run in three consecutive innings starting in the third when Francisco Lizarraga’s RBI-single drew the Loons closer 3-1. In the fourth, an RBI-triple by Bridger Hunt highlighted a two-run inning to tie it up 3-3. In the bottom of the fifth, David Sutherland connected on the first pitch he saw from Beloit reliever Danny Vais for a home run down the right-field line, his first of the season. Soon after, outfielder Scott Van Slyke would deliver an RBI-single to make it 5-3 at the time. In the Loons half of the seventh, Loons newcomer Adolfo Gonzalez reached base on an Olson throwing error and scored on a Danny Leatherman wild pitch to make it 7-6, the way the game would end.

On offense, the Loons recorded 12 base hits for the afternoon being led by Hunt’s three hit afternoon. Sutherland, DH Eduardo Perez, and catcher Carlos Santana each recorded multi-hit games for the Loons.

For the Loons, right-hander Francisco Felix started and pitched five innings allowing six hits and three runs (two earned) while walking three and striking out five. He gets the loss, his record falls to 1-2. Arismendy Castillo made his Loons debut and pitched two innings, allowing five hits, four runs, (three earned) a walk and a strikeout. Jesus Rodriguez came in and pitched a scoreless final two innings for the Loons.

Alex Burnett (2-2) started for the Snappers and got the win, going four innings allowing eight hits and three runs, two walks and three strikeouts. Danny Vais pitched in relief and got roughed up in his two innings of work allowing four hits and two runs while striking out two. Danny Leatherman also pitched 1.2 innings giving up a hit and an unearned run. Robert Delaney worked the ninth for his seventh save of the season.

The Loons record falls to 11-18 while the Snappers improve to 16-10.

The Loons will take on these same Beloit Snappers on Monday morning here at Dow Diamond where lefthander Cody White gets the call for the Loons going up against Jose Lugo for Beloit. The game will be played as we celebrate School Kid’s Day courtesy of Holiday Inn where kids are asked to put away those pens and papers for a special early game beginning at 10:35 AM.

White comes into the game with a record of 0-4 with a 4.64 earned run average, while Lugo is also 1-1 but with a 3.57 ERA. GCL Reds 7 at GCL Twins 2

"No, no," says Loek, "It's more than that because Alcala gave up some runs. It's like 7-2."

"That's what I said, Loek. Allen gave up three and Alcala gve up four. That makes it 7-2."

Michael Allen gave up two runs on 2 hits, a walk, and a sac-fly. Omar Alcala allowed a four hits, one walk, and one wild pitch, and struck out one in one inning. Allen's runs came in the second inning, he worked three.

Rene Leveret and Wesley Conner both singled to start the bottom of the third and progressed when Esterlin De Lo Santos was hit by a pitch. With a discussion going on the bench about either giving up a big one, or walking in a run, Mark Dolenc drew a walk to force in a run. Conner came in on Luis Ugueto's sac fly. The Twins had 8 hits in the game, and two walks.

David Bromberg pitched two strong innings in relief while Aussie Jarrad Eacott pitched one.
