Beloit 8 at Great Lakes 1

Record 15-10

W: J. Manship (3-0, 0.92); L: M. Gardner (3-2, 4.38)
HR: None.

From loons.com: A huge fifth inning, and a dominating pitching performance by Beloit righthander Jeff Manship made quick work of the Loons as the Beloit Snappers came out victorious by a score of 8-1.

The Snappers scored twice in the first inning when Snappers third basemen Daniel Valencia and leftfielder Garrett Olsen drove in a pair of runs on an RBI-single and RBI groundout respectively to make it 2-0. Then a six run fifth inning put the game out of reach for Great Lakes. The inning was highlighted by a three-run triple by Snappers centerfielder Joe Benson to right field past a diving Bridger Hunt.

The Loons would get their only run in the first as Francisco Lizarraga grounded into a double play with the bases loaded scoring Trayvon Robinson to make it 2-1. On offense, the Loons could only muster up four base hits for the evening.

For the Loons, right-hander Michael Gardner started in place of an injured Clayton Kershaw and pitched 4.1 innings allowing seven hits and seven runs (six earned) while walking two and striking out three. He ran into some trouble in the fifth but wasn’t helped by his relief help as he left with the bases loaded. Miguel Sanfler gave up an infield base hit to score one and reload the bases, only to be followed by Benson’s three-run triple in the fifth inning. Sanfler pitched 3.2 innings, allowing three hits, one run, a walk and three strikeouts. Garrett White came in and pitched a scoreless ninth for the Loons. Kershaw's injury isn't considered serious and the holding out was considered a precautionary measure.

Jeff Manship started for the Snappers and was dominant as he went seven innings allowing four hits and one run without a walk and striking out nine. Jesus Carnevale pitched in relief and went the final two innings, giving up no hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

The Loons record falls to 11-17 while the Snappers improve to 15-10.

The Loons will take on these same Beloit Snappers on Sunday afternoon here at Dow Diamond where you can bring the whole family for Family Fun in the SUNday! The Midwest leader in earned run average righthander Francisco Felix gets the ball for the Loons going up against Jose Lugo for Beloit. Felix comes into the game with a record of 1-1 with a minuscule 0.36 earned run average, while Lugo is also 1-1 but with a 3.57 ERA.
