About the time Steve Hirshfeld was giving up 8 runs for the Beloit Snappers in the 2nd inning of Sunday's contest, I was sitting at the drink rail in Hammond Stadium trying to remember who the fifth member of the Beloit rotation was. How could I forget?

Hirschfeld would probably like to forget Sunday's performance.

Manuel Rodriguez, Jonathan Jaspe, John Tollsano, Johermyn Chavez, and Moises Sierra all took singles off Hirschfelt to start the top of the 2nd inning, which put three runs on the board. Darin Mastroianni doubled to add a fourth before Justin Jackson ground out, adding a fifth. A fielder's choice allowed Raul Barron to reach and took Mastroianni out at home. Dave Cooper singled and Rodriguez, batting around the order, doubled to add six and seven. Jaspe's single to center plated Rodriguez for the 8th run before Tolisano finally lined out to center.

Mark Dolenc tripled in the bottom of the stanza and came home on a Yangervis Solarte ground out to put the Snappers on the board. It seemed almost a footnote after the top of the inning.

Sierra would reach in the 3rd on a fielding error by Juan Richardson. After Mastroianni flew out, Jackson doubled Sierra in for the Lugnuts 9th run.

Back-to-back singles by Rene Leveret and Dolenc, combined with a fielding error by Sierra, put Leveret over the plate for the second Snappers run. Solarte would ground out, plating Dolenc. It was going to take a lot of chipping away for the Snappers to get out of that hole, but chip they did.

Chris Anderson replaced Hirschfeld for the fifth and allowed a double to Chavez. He'd be taken out at 3rd though on a fielder's choice. Mastroianni would then fly into a double play to to end the inning.

The Lugnuts made a pitching change in the sixth, with Joe Wice replacing Brian Letko on the mound. Newly reactivated Paul Kelly doubled and Leveret singled. Dolenc would hit into a double play at scored Kelly to make it 9-4 Lansing.

With one out on the board in the top of the 7th, Jaspe walked and Tolisano launched his sixth home run of the season over the left field wall to add the final pair to the Lugnuts total. Chavez would go down on strike sand Sierra walk before Michael Allen came in to replace Anderson getting Mastroianni to ground into a force out to retire the side.

Michael Barbara took to the mound in the bottom of the 8th, and after getting Chris Cates to pop out, allowed a double to Kelly. Leveret singled to plate Kelly to make it 11-5 Luggies.

Allan de San Miguel singled to start out the ninth inning rally. Richardson followed it up with a single of his own and Andrew Schmiesing's ground out advanced the runners. Jeanfred Brito singled to plate de San Miguel, and Cates doubled in Richardson and Brito. Tim Collins would take over the mound for the Lugnuts at that point and would get Kelly and Leveret to both ground out, ending the inning, with Beloit still down by three.

Brito and Dolenc were both 2-for-4 at the plate, Brito with a walk a run and a RBI, and Dolenc with a triple and a pair of runs. Leveret finished up 3-for-5 with a run and a RBI, while Kelly, serving as the designated hitter, was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles, and a pair of runs. Cates would go 1-for-4 at the plate with a walk, a double and a pair of runs scored. Richardson and Dirty were both 1-for-3 with a run, Richardson with a walk as well.

Hirschfeld's final line score was 9 runs, 8 earned, on 10 hits and 2 walks while fanning 2 over 4 innings.

The 3-game losing streak puts Beloit at 21-22 on the season, sixth in the 8-team Western division, 4.5 games out of first.

Beloit takes Monday off before heading out on the road for a four-game series against the Kane County Cougars. Tuesday's game begins at 6:30 PM.

Kelly Activated from DL

The Minnesota Twins have activated Paul Kelly from the disabled list in time for today's game between the Snappers and Lansing Lugnuts. Kelly is coming off of a right hamstring injury sustained in the June 20th game against the Peoria Chiefs. Before he was injured, Paul played in just two games for the Snappers with four hits in six at-bats.

Kelly played for the Snappers during parts of the '05 and '06 seasons, making the Midwest League All-Star team in 2006. From there, the infielder battled a left knee injury that kept him out of the majority of the 2007 season, and the first half of the '08 season.

Prior to this season, Kelly had a career batting average of .280 with 30 doubles and 73 RBIs in 142 minor league games. The Twins' 2nd round pick in the 2005 First-Year Player draft is a graduate of Flower Mound (TX) High School.

The move puts the Beloit active roster at 25. (Snappers)

Snappers sweep in extra innings

A triple by Estarlin De Los Santos and a single by Yangervis Solarte combined to give the Beloit Snappers the game winning run in the bottom of the 11th and a sweep of the Great Lakes Loons at Pohlman Field on Thursday night.

Great Lakes would get on the board first, with Preston Mattingly doubling off Shooter Hunt in the third inning. Hunt would then walk Parker Dalton, and a sac-bunt by Jovanny Rosario moved the pair. Erik Kanaby reached on a fielder's choice as Juan Richardson tried to make the play at the plate, but he was charged with an interference error and Mattingly scored. Hunt would walk Andrew Lambo, before getting Edwardo Perez to fly into a double play that took Dalton out at the plate.

Greg Yersich blasted his 8th home run of the season over the right field wall for Beloit, putting them on the board in the top of the fifth. Chris Cates would follow that up with a double, but Andrew Schmiesing and Jeanfred Brito both ground out to bring Great Lakes up to bat again.

Hunt would work five innings allowing only a pair of hits while fanning 9, but he'd walk five, and unleash a wild pitch in the fifth. That nearly cost him another run. He'd walk Rosario to start the inning, and then the Loons right fielder stole 2nd. After Kanaby was taken out on strikes, Rosario moved to 3rd on Hunt's wild pitch. Lambo would reach on a fielder's choice, with Richardson throwing the ball to Yersich to take Rosario out at home.

So Hunt owed the great Snappers' defense a couple of thank yous when Mike Allen took over in the sixth.

Mark Dolenc went yard in the bottom of the 7th, putting his 3rd of the season over the left center field wall.

The Loons tied it up in the top of the 8th though with Lambo and Perez taking back-to-back singles off Mike Allen. Blake Martin took over at that point, and Alfredo Silverio laid down a lovely sac-bunt to advance his runners. Kenley Jansen's ground out served to score Lambo for the equalizing run.

That sent the game into extra innings until De Lo and Soley connected for the Snappers win.

Allen would allow 3 hits and a walk while fanning three over 2 innings. He'd be charged for Lambo's run in the 8th. Martin would be changed with the blown save although he allowed only 1 hit and a pair of walks while fanning 3 over 2.2 innings. Charles Nolte picked up the win, his fourth of the season, pitching the last 1.1 innings of the game, during which time he struck out one.

The feisty little (5'3") Cates would go 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and a pair of doubles. Solarte and Dolenc were both 2-for-4, Dolenc with a run and a run scored courtesy of his yard ball. Yersich also had a run and a run scored for the same reason, but he was 1-for-4 at he plate as was Schmeising, who would become the game's one hit wonder. De Lo finished up 2-for-5 at the plate with a triple and a run.

With the Loons shot down, the Lansing Lugnut lug themselves into town for the next three games. Friday's contest features post game fireworks sponsored in part by Suds O'Hananhan's Irish Pub. The first pitch goes out at 7:00 PM, central time.

Thursday's game between the Elizabethton Twins and the Greeneville Astros was suspended by rain. It will be made up on Friday, August 1, as part of a double header starting at 6:00 PM eastern time.

The contest will be played through to the regulation 9 innings and will be followed by the regularly scheduled game, which will be shortened to 7 innings.

There was no score at the time the game was suspended.

Snappers like Loons, win 7-5

The Beloit Snappers found the Great Lakes Loons rather to their liking as they took a 7-5 win over the visitors at Pohlman Field Monday night in game that featured a combined 27 hits by both teams.

Steve Hirschfled took the start for the Snappers, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits and 2 walks while fanning 3 in 5.2 innings. Beloit would get to Great Lakes' Thomas Melgarejo first however, snagging pair of runs in the first inning off the Dogers' affiliate.

With a pair of outs on the board, Yangervis Solarte singled and was doubled in by Rene Leveret. A wild pitch by Melgarejo moved Leveret to 3rd and a fielding error by Eduardo Perez allowed Mark Dolenc to reach and Leveret to score before Juan Richardson ground into a force out to end the inning.

Perez would single for the Loons in the top of the second, and Jaime Ortiz doubled. Kenley Johnson's ground out served to score Perez. After a fly out to Preston Mattingly, Brandon Taylor went yard to give Great Lakes a 3-2 lead.

The Snappers tie it up in the bottom of the 2nd when Chris Cates singled, moved to second on a Andrew Schmiesing single and came home on Jeanfred Brito's grounder to center.

They would extend their league in the bottom of the 3rd with Leveret and Dolenc both singling. Richardson hit into a force out which, combined with a throwing error Mattingly allowed Leveret to score. Allan de San Miguel doubled in Richardson and Cates singled to drive in Dirty.

The next couple of innings would be quiet. In the top of the sixth, Mattingly singled with a pair of outs on the board. A wild pitch by Hirschfeld put Mattingly on second and Taylor doubled him in. Parker Dalton would walk, and Snappers field manager Nelson Prada took a walk out to the mound, calling Charles Nolte in from the Snappers bullpen.

The top of the 8th saw Kenley Jansen double off Nolte and be replaced by pinch runner Jovanny Rosario. After Mattingly went down on strikes, Taylor singled to score Rosario, helped in part by Dolenc's fielding error. Dalton would go down on strikes and Prada called for another pitching change, putting Blake Martin on the mound.

The Snappers took the run back in the bottom of the eighth, with Dolenc singling, then moving to 3rd on Richardson's ground out. Dirty singled to score Dolenc. He'd try to get to second but would be tagged out at the base.

Melgarejo worked only 3 innings for Great Lakes before giving way to Miguel Sanfler, who finished the contest. Melgarejo still took the loss however, while Hirshfeld improved to 7-3 on the season.

Solarte, Leveret, Dolenc and Dirty were all 2-for-4, Solarte with a run, Leveret with a double, a pair of runs and a run scored, Dolenc and Dirty each with a run and Dirty with a double and a pair of RBIs as well. Cates was 3-for-4 with a run and a RBI. Brito finished up 1-for-4 with a RBI, and Schmiesing was 1-for-3, as the contest's one hit wonder.

THE SEASON SO FAR: The Snappers are 17-17 in the second half and in fourth place in the Western Division.

WHO'S HOT: OF Ben Revere tied for sixth among league batting leaders last week, hitting .429 (9-for-21) with three RBIs and two runs scored in five games. In 69 games this season he's batting .399 (113-for-283) with 17 doubles, nine triples, 39 RBIs and 42 runs scored.

WHO'S NOT: LHP Michael Tarsi dropped to 4-11 with a 5.67 ERA after being tagged with a pair of losses last week. In 21 games (including 20 starts) he has allowed 84 runs (71 earned) on 151 hits (including 12 home runs) over 112 2/3 innings.

OLYMPIC GLORY: RHP Loek Van Mil left the team last week to represent his country -- the Netherlands -- in next month's Beijing Olympic Games. Van Mil (2-2, 3.22 ERA) is not expected to return to the Snappers until the last week of the season.

DID YOU KNOW: The 7-foot-1 Van Mil has struck out 42 batters while issuing 25 walks in 28 relief appearances. He was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent in 2005. He and 5-foot-3 teammate Chris Cates are the tallest and shortest players in baseball.

ROSTER MOVES: RHP Shooter Hunt, the Twins' supplemental first-round pick and the 31st overall selection in the June Draft, joined the Snappers last week after going 0-0 with a 0.47 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 19 innings for the Rookie-level Elizabethton Twins. He struck out nine batters in his debut against Wisconsin on Saturday.

IF Yangervis Solarte was received from Class A Advanced Fort Myers to fill Van Mil's roster spot. In 42 games with the Miracle, he hit .259 with three home runs and 16 RBIs.

The Elizabethton Twins had Tuesday off. They return to work on Wednesday as they travel to Greeneville to face the Astros.

Snappers win one of three

Saturday: Beloit 0 at Wisconsin 1

Shooter Hunt made his debut with the Beloit Snappers on Saturday despite giving up only 1 run on 3 hits and a pair of walks, he simply was not good enough as the Snappers could muster no offense against Wisconsin's Jake Wild.

A walk to Alex Liddi, and a pair of back-to-back singles to Juan Diaz and Blake Ochoa put the Timber Rattlers on the board in the second inning.

Hunt struck out 9, but continued to show some of the control issues that plagued him in his collage career by hitting Daniel Carroll with a pitch in the bottom of the fifth. Carroll would then steal 2nd and progress to 3rd on a wild pitch. Happily, there were two outs already on the board and Hunt was able to get Denny Almonte out on strikes to prevent another Rattler's run.

Beloit never really threatened and could not advance a runner past second in the game.

Blake Martin worked two innings of relief, fanning four, while Nolte pitched the 8th, striking out just one.

Two of the Snappers five hits were by designated hitter Chris Cates, who was 2-for-4 on the night. Mark Dolenc and Rene Leveret were both 1-for-4 while Andrew Schmiesing was 1-for-3.

Sunday: Beloit 4 at Wisconsin 8

The Wisconsin Timber-Rattlers doubled up the Beloit Snappers in the resumption of the game that was suspended on July 7.

In the first inning, Deibinson Romero and Ozzie Lewis had both singled. A third single, to Rene Leveret scored Romero to put Beloit on the board in the top of the first.

Wisconsin answered back in the bottom of the second with Joseph Dunigan tripling in Ron Garth, who had singled his way onto base. A wild pitch by starter Steve Hirschfeld allowed Dunigan to cross the plate as well, putting Wisconsin on top.

In the resumption of the game, Juan Richardson would replace Romero and Yangervis Solarte would replace Lewis as the two original players were injured during the intervening time. Michael Allen would also replace Steve Hirschfeld on the mound.

The bottom of the third saw Maximo Mendez take a single from Allen, then steal 2nd base. Edilio Colina hit into a sac bunt which, combined with a Allen throwing error scored Mendez. Diaz would reach on a another throwing error by Allen, which allowed Colina to score. Following a fly out to Denny Almonte, Ron Garth reached on a fielder's choice that failed when Estarlin De Los Santos mis-threw the ball. Dunigan then doubled to plate the two runners before Liddi would be taken out on strikes. Joe White would line out to end the inning with the score 6-1.

Chris Cates took a walk in the top of the six. Richardson would pop out but a Solarte single moved Cates to 2nd. Leveret then doubled him in to give the Snappers their second run.

Wisconsin answered back with Liddi walking and White singling. Blake Ochoe would be called out on strikes before Chris Anderson came in to replace Allen. He'd get Mendez to fly out to center, a play that moved Liddi to 3rd, and then gave up a single to Colina that scored the Wisconsin runner.

With Danny Hernandez on the mound in the bottom of the 8th, Liddi doubled and White walked. Ochoa would fly out but Mendez drew a walk to load the bags. Colina ground in to a force out that scored Liddi, giving the T-Rattlers 8.

A last ditch effort by the Snappers saw Mark Dolenc walk off Robert Harmon. Allan de San Miguel and Andrew Schmiesing then hit back-to-back doubles to scored two. That would be all the Snappers would get though despite a single to Cates that moved Schmiesing to 3rd.

Hirschfield would take the loss, his fifth of the season. Leveret was 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and a pair of RBIs. Dirty and Schmiesing were both 1-for-4 with a double, Dirty with the run, Schmiesing with a pair of RBIs. Cates was also 1-for-4, but with a single, a walk and a run.

Solarte and De Lo were both 1-for-3, De Lo with a walk, Romero and Lewis were each 1-for-1, Romero with a run, and Jeanfred Brito was 1-for-5. Dolenc finished up 0-for-3 but with a walk and a run.

Sunday: Beloit 3 at Wisconsin 1

The Beloit Snappers finally found a win, dropping the Timber Rattlers 3-1 in extra innings during Sunday's second game.

Brian McCardell and Edward Paredes would both work 7 scoreless innings for the their respective teams.

Beloit would get on the board in the 8th with Mark Dolenc tripling off Parades. Andrew Schmiesing then reached on a fielding error by catcher Isreal Nunez that plated Dolenc.

The Rattlers answered back right away, with Alex Liddi reaching on a throwing error by Jeanfred Brito. After a fly out to Denny Almonte, Juan Diaz doubled to plate Liddi tying the game.

The top of the 10th would see Rene Leveret singling and Mark Dolenc doubling. A throwing error by catcher Isreal Nunez brought Dolenc home as well, giving the Snappers an insurance run.

Blake Martin pick up the win, working the last 1.2 innings. Santos Arias gave up the lone T-Rattler's run, unearned on 2 hits and walk in 1.1 innings.

Cates and Dolenc were both 2-for-4, Dolenc with a double and a triple, a pair of runs and a RBI.

Estarlin De Lost Santos, Leveret and Yersich were each 1-for-4, Leveret with a run.

West Michigan rallies past Beloit

The West Michigan Whitecaps took 3 runs off reliever Loek Van Mil in the eighth inning to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Beloit Snappers at Pohlman Field.

John Tucker would reach on a fielding error by Estarlin De Los Santos. Kody Kaiser then doubled off the Dutchman, moving Tucker to 3rd. Jordan Newton drew a walk to load the bags. A wild pitch by Van Mil scored Tucker, and Keith Stein sacrificed in Kaiser to tie up the score. Another wild pitch by Van Mil moved Newton to 3rd, and Adrian Casanova sacrificed him in for the game winning run.

West Michigan had gotten on the board first with Tucker doubling off starter David Bromberg with one out on the board. After Kaiser went down on strikes, Newton took walk. Keith Stein's ground ball to center scored Tucker. Stein would try to reach 2nd, but didn't make it, with Ben Revere relaying the ball to Deibinson Romero who fired it Jeanfred Brito.

Romero would leave the game in the top of the 4th with a broken leg. As a result, Bromberg, who made quite a name for himself as a hitter in JuCo, took over for Romero in the clean up role, batting fourth.

De Los Santos flew out to start the bottom of the fourth, but Chris Cates took a walk. A wild pitch by Whitecaps starter Maurico Robles moved Cates to 2nd. Revere would go down on strikes before a second wild pitch moved Cates to 3rd. Bromberg then took a walk. Mark Dolenc would lift a ball over the center field wall for his second home run of the year, giving the Snappers three.

While the loss of Romero hit the team hard, it was a potentially fun night for the pitchers, who never get to bat. Only Craig Anderson got a single in his at bat, although Bromberg had the walk and the run.

Not much in the way of hitting for any of the Snappers though as De Lo and Revere were both 1-for-4, while Dolenc and Allan de San Miguel were 1-for-3 each, Dolenc with the run and 3 RBIs.

The Timber Rattlers now come into town to pay the Snappers a visit. Steve Hirschfeld (5-2, 2.82) will throw out the first pitch for Beloit at 7:00 Central Time. Wisconsin will counter with Brett Lorin (0-0, 0.00)

Romero heads to the DL for the second time this season after hitting .264 with three home runs and 18 RBIs in 39 games. Deibinson was coming off a left knee injury that sidelined him from April 28th to June 18th earlier this season.

Signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent in July of 2004, Romero was key in the Snappers 2007 playoff run. Deibinson was promoted to Beloit from E-town last season on September 2nd, one week before Beloit entered the postseason. He helped lead the Snappers all the way to the Midwest League Finals where they would eventually fall to the West Michigan Whitecaps.

To replace Romero on the roster the Minnesota Twins have promoted Juan Richardson from the Elizabethton Twins.

Richardson comes to Beloit after spending 15 games with the Elizabethton Twins. While in E-town, Richardson hit .250 with three doubles and 10 RBIs in 60 at-bats.

Richardson was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent in February of ’07. Juan spent 2007 with the GCL Twins where he hit .317 with 64 hits in 202 at-bats. Richardson also notched 10 doubles and 33 RBIs in 54 games. (Snappers)

Snappers drop pair to Dragons

When we left this game in progress, the Beloit Snappers were winning by one but the Dayton Dragons needed to finish off their inning. Charles Nolte would come in to resume the game and would get Devin Mesoraco to ground out to end the seventh.

He'd give up a home run however, to Logan Parker in the bottom of the 8th, tying the game up again.

Greg Yersich would go yard off Jeff Jeffords for the Snappers in the top of the 9th to put Beloit on top again.

But the game was not over. Zach Cozart, Neftali Soto and Jolbert Cabrera singled to load up the bases on Nolte. After Denis Phipps and Mesoraco both lined out, Parker singled out to right to drive in Cozart and Soto to end the game with the Dragons on top.

Yersich was 4-for-5 with a run, and 3 RBIs. Mark Dolenc was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs, while Ben Revere and Estarlin De Los Santos were both 2-for-5, De Lo with a triple and 2 RBIs.

Game two should have been a shortened affair, but was also played to 9 as the game was tied at the end of 7.

Steve Hirschfeld would make the start for the Snappers, while Danny Guerrero handled the pitching chores for the Dragons.

Logan Parker would take a walk off Hirschfeld in the bottom of the 2nd, and would be doubled in by Jolbert Cabrera to put the Dragons on the board.

Mark Dolenc doubled in the top of the 3rd for Beloit and following a pop out by Jeanfred Brito, Estarling De Los Santos singled to move him to 3rd. Ben Revere's line drive to right plated Dolenc, while Deibinson Romero's grounder to left brought in De Lo to put Beloit on top.

With two outs on the board in the top of the fourth, Dolenc singled, then stole 2nd. Brito then doubled to drive in Dolenc. The speedy Brito would be taken out at 3rd however as he tried to stretch the hit for a triple, retiring the side.

Cabrera would reach on Romero's fielding error in the bottom of the stanza, and move to second on Denis Phipps ground ball single. Cabrera then advanced to 3rd on Michael McKennon's fly out. Jason Bour would go down swinging and Phipps would steal 3rd. A throwing error by Allan de San Miguel allowed Cabrera to score.

Neftali Soto tripled and Parker singled him to tie up the game in the bottom of the fifth.

Lee Martin took over for Hirschfeld in the bottom of the sixth and allowed only 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 4. Jonathan Conatser replaced Guerrero for the 8th and the 9th, and allowed only 1 hit while fanning 2 over that time frame.

Danny Hernandez was brought in for the bottom of the ninth for Beloit. He'd get Jason Bour to fly out, then gave up a home run to Angel Cabrera which finished off the contest.

Dolenc was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and a double in the contest. Brito (1-for-4) also had a double as well as an RBI while De Lo, Revere, Romero and Ozzie Lewis all had singles.

The teams rematch on Monday for a 6:00 PM game before breaking for the All-star game on Tuesday.

Class A Beloit right-hander Mike McCardell was named the Twins Minor League pitcher of the month for June. McCardell went 4-0 in five starts while posting a 2.45 ERA and 0.87 WHIP.

A native of West Chester, Pa, the 6'5", 220 lb right hander was the Twins sixth rough pick in the 2007 first year player draft. He was named the Appalachian player of the week from August 20 to the 26th in 2007, and named to Baseball America's post season Rookie All-star team.

Elizabethton 1 at Johnson City 3

The game between the Elizabethton Twins and the Johnson City Cardinals was suspended by rain. Johnson City was leading 3-1 at the time the game was halted.

The contest will be continued on July 20th at Johnson City starting at 6:05 PM ET. They will play the game in progress through nine innings, the second, regularly scheduled game will be shortened to 7-innings.

Snappers out-slug Timber Rattlers

The Beloit Snappers came out on top of a slug fest Sunday afternoon at Fox Cities Stadium, dropping the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 12- 11.

Michael Pineda took the start for the Timber Rattlers against the Snappers' Santos Arias. Both pitchers hail from the Dominican Republic and despite a very aggressive Beloit offense in the first and second inning, both kept the opposing team off the board until the fourth rolled around.

Deibinson Romero singled out to left to lead off that stanza and Rene Leveret followed that up with a double that plated Romero. A wild pitch by Pineda would move Leveret to 3rd, and Ozzie Lewis saw fit to sacrifice him in to give the Snappers the first two runs of the game.

With one out on the board in the bottom half the fourth, Edilio Colina doubled. Following a fly out to Denny Almonte, Ronald Garth singled to drive in Colina. Joseph Dunigan doubled in Garth, and Juan Diaz tripled to plated Dunigan before Arias could get Joe White out on strikes to end the inning.

The fifth would be relatively quiet. Leveret would go down on strikes in the top of the sixth before Lewis took a walk. Keith Meyer would then take over the pitching chores from Pineda and unleashed a wild pitch, moving Lewis to second. Allan de San Miguel then drew a walk. Mark Dolenc tripled the pair in, and a sac-bunt by Estarlin De Los Santos brought Dolenc in to make it 5-3 Snappers.

Colina singled to lead of the bottom half the inning, before Arias took Almonte out on strikes. Garth then doubled to move Colina to 3rd. Field Manager Nelson Prada would call for a pitching change, getting Henry Reyes out of the bullpen. Reyes would allow a single to Dunican that scored Colina. Reyes then let go of his own wild pitch, allowing Garth to cross the plate. He would walk Diaz before getting Gavin Dickey and Isreal Nunez to ground out, with the game tied.

Ben Revere led off the top of the 7th with a walk. Deibinson Romero singled before the Timber Rattlers went to their bullpen again, this time selecting Jose Escalona to try his hand at the Snappers. He'd allow a walk to Leveret to load the bases, then a single to Lewis that scored Revere. Aussie catcher de San Miguel then hit a grand slam home run over the left field wall, to make it 10-5 Snappers. Beloit would load the bases again before Chris Cates hit into a double play to give Wisconsin a turn.

With one out on the board, Alex Meneses walked. Colina then went yard for his 3rd home run of the season. Denny Almote singled and advanced to second when Reyes was called on a balk. Garth would fly out, moving Almonte to 3rd before Dunigan took a walk. Juan Diaz then singled, plating Almonte, and a throwing error by Reyes allowed Dunigan to come home as well. Suddenly it was 10-9 Snappers.

Justin Souza replaced Escalona to start the eighth, and got Revere out on strikes. Romero and Leveret hit back-go-back singles that put runners on the corners. Lewis hit into a force out that plated Romero, and took Leveret down at 2nd. Lewis would then be caught stealing to retire the side.

Dutchman Loek Van Mil took over in the bottom of the 8th for Beloit and despite a walk to Nunez and a double to Meneses, kept Wisconsin from gaining additional ground on the Snappers.

The bottom of the ninth would be different however, as Garth hit his fourth home run of the season over the left field fence and Dunigan followed that up with his sixth yard ball of the season to tie up the game.

Spencer Steedly took over for Van Mil in the 10th, keeping Wisconsin quiet. With one out on the board in the 11th, Leveret singled and a wild pitch by Robert Harmon moved him to 2nd. Lewis would be called out on strikes and de San Miguel would draw a walk. Another wild pitch moved Leveret to 3rd. Mark Dolenc then singled to score Leveret for what would prove the game winning run.

Steedly made short work of Wisconsin the bottom of the stanza, sealing the game for the Snappers.

Dolenc finished up 4-for-5 with a walk a run and 3 RBIs. Leveret was 3-for-5 with a walk, three runs and a run scored, Romero was 3-for-6 with 3 runs. Revere as 1-for-4 with a pair of walks and a run, Lewis was 1-for-3 with 2 walks, 2 runs and 3 RBIs and de San Miguel finished up 1-for-4 with 2 walks, 2 runs, and 4 runs scored. De Los Santos was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run.

Steely picked up the win, improving his record to 5-3, fanning 2 in two innings worth of work.

The loss was the Rattlers 10th straight. The final game of the series is Monday at 7:05 PM with Steve Hirschfeld (5-2, 2.74) taking to the hill for the Snappers against Wisconsin's Juan Ramirez (3-7, 4.59).

Elizabethton 3 at Bristol 3

Suspended - rain

The game between the Elizabethton Twins and the Bristol Sox was suspended in the top of the 7th due to rain. The game was tied at three each. It will be completed, August 11, 2008 at 6:00 PM. The teams completed game will be 9 inning in length. The second, regularly scheduled game, will be played as a 7-inning affair.

Jon Waltenbury and Danny Rams had hit back-to-back singles in the top of the 4th inning. Waltenbury would advance to 3rd on a fielding error by Kenneth Gilbert. Michael Harrington then singled to score both runners, while Harrington ended up at 2nd on a missed catch by shortstop Juan Silverio. 2 outs later, Nat Hanson would reach on a throwing error to score Harrington, giving the E-Twins 3 runs and tying up the game.

Mike Lanigan had taken the start, allowing 3 runs, only one earned, to the Sox on 3 hits and a walk in 1.2 innings. He'd fan one. Omar Alcala was on the mound at the time the rains came.

McCardell stiffles Kernels offense

Mike McCardell worked all 9 innings Sunday, allowing only one run on 5 hits while fanning five in route to his 5th victory of the year. McCardell retired 15 batters straight from the 5th inning on, ensuring the Beloit Snappers victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels.

Hector Estrella would double off McCardell in the top of the 4th with one runner out. Following a pop out to Efren Navarro, Jay Brossman singled to drive in Estrella. Brossman would steal 2nd, but Clay Fuller struck out swinging to end retire the side.

Beloit would not tie up the game until the bottom of the sixth, when Mark Dolenc took a walk, then stole 2nd base. Estarlin De Los Santos doubled to plate Dolenc, then would move to 3rd on Chris Cates sac bunt. However, Deibinson Romero would go down on strikes and Ozzie Lewis would ground out to end the inning.

With one out on the board, Greg Yersich singled. He'd advance to 2nd on Allan de San Miguel's line out, on a throwing error by shortstop Andrew Romine. Andrew Schmiesing drew a walk before Dolenc would single Yersich in for the game winning run.

Only Lewis, Rene Leveret and de San Miguel failed to get a hit for the Snappers, although de San Miguel walked twice as did Dolenc.

The two teams finish off the 4-game series Monday at 7:00 PM at Pohlman Field.

The Snappers will be helping out the relief efforts for flood victims in Iowa by donating 50 cents for ever ticket sold to their July 3rd game. Minor League Baseball is heading up the relief efforts with a $50,000 donation. Four Midwest League teams: the Burlington Bees, Cedar Rapids Kernels, Quad Cities River Bandits, and Iowa Cubs were affected by the flooding. (Press Release)

Beloit 5 at Clinton 8

All good things must come to an end, and so it was with the Beloit Snappers' win streak. The Snapper fell into a hole early against the Clinton Lumber Kings and could not find enough runs to get out.

Ian Gac singled in the bottom of the 2nd before Beloit starter David Bromberg would hit Jonathan Greene with a pitch. Cristian Santana doubled to drive in the pair. Following a ground out to Jose Felix, Andres Jones singled to plate Santana, giving the L-Kings a 3-0 lead.

Renny Osuna singled to start out the bottom of the third, and Timothy Smith doubled him in. Michael Moreland's single moved Smith to 3rd, and Ian Gac would smack a line drive out to left to bring in Smith. Jonathan Greene hit into a double play and Cristian Santana would ground out to end the inning.

Estarlin De Los Santos and Chris Cates drew back-to-back walks off the L-Kings Fabio Castillo. Diebenson Romero would single out to left field to load the bags. Chris Parmalee would hit a sac fly to bring in De Lo while Joe Benson's follow up single plated Cates A fielding error by Santana gave Deibinson 3rd, and Benson would then steal 2nd, but Castillo would take Ozzie Lewis and Greg Yersich out on strikes to end the inning.

Bromberg would work the fourth without any further problems and the Snappers continued to play catch up in the bottom of the 5th. Eric Santiago walked. Mark Dolenc singled before De Lo would fly out, moving Santiago to 3rd. Cates ground out to put Dolenc on 2nd. Romero then doubled the pair in. Parmelee would fly out to retire the side.

Timothy Smith singled and Mitchell Moreland doubled to start out the bottom of the 5th. Gac then took a Bromberg pitch over the left field wall to give the L-Kings 8 to the Snappers 4. Bromberg would then hit Greene with a pitch before Nelson Prada took Bromberg off the mound and gave the ball to Henry Reyes. The big Dominican would get Santana to fly out, Felix to ground into a force out, and James to ground out, ending the inning.

Santiago and Dolenc would draw back-to-back walks from Joseph Ortiz in the top of the 7th. De Lo would offer up a sac bunt to advance the runners, and Cates would sacrifice in Santiago. Romero would be hit by a pitch and Parmalee would walk to load the bags before Chris Dennis came into to replace Ortiz, getting Benson to ground into a force out to stop the Snapper's scoring threat.

Bromberg's line score would not look good: 8 runs on 11 hits while fanning 4 over four innings. Henry Reyes and Danny Hernandez pitched the last four, with Reyes going three before letting Hernandez take over.

Romero was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs in the contest. Cates and Yersich were both 1-for-3, Cates with a walk, a run and a RBI and Yersich with a walk and pair of strike outs. Dolenc was also 1-for-3 with a run and a walk. Benson was 1-for-4 with 1 RBI.

The Snappers play one more against the L-Kings, Thursday night at Alliant Energy Field starting at 7:00 PM. They finally return home on Friday to open a 4-game series against the Cedar Rapids Kernels.

Elizabethton 5 at Bluefield 13

The Bluefield Orioles took advantage of the Elizabethton Twins bullpen Wednesday night, putting 10 runs on the board to go on to a 13-5 win.

Andrew Schmiesing's single in the top of the 3rd combined with a Michael Herrington home run gave the E-Twins an early lead.

Twins starter Bobby Lanigan would give up 3 in the bottom of the fourth, putting the Orioles on top. He'd go on to work 5.1 innings, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits and a pair of walks while striking out 6. Jose Alcala would finish up the sixth inning, allowing 3 more runs on 2 hits and three walks while striking out 1.

The Twins would not find another run until the top of the 8th, when Michael Harrington walked, moved to 2nd on a Rene Leveret single and to 3rd on a Danny Rams ground out. Angel Morales then singled to plate Harrington.

Lee Martin, working the final 2 on the mound for the E-Twins would give up 5 run, 4 earned, on four hits and a walk while striking out 3 over 2 innings.

The final two runs came in the top of the 9th, with Nathan Hanson doubling and James Beresford singling him in. Schmiesing then lined out and Romero would go down on strikes before a passed ball moved Beresford to 2nd. Harrington then singled Beresford in. Leveret would fly out though, cutting the rally short and ending the game.

Hanson was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run; Harrington and Morales were 2-for-4, Harrington with a pair of runs, a walk and 3 RBIs and Morales with 1 RBI. Schmiesing was 2-for-5 with a run.

Rams, Nick Papasan and Leveret each had singles, the first two being one-hit wonders and the Leveret taking a walk to go with his single.

The E-Twin now return to Joe O'Donald Field to face the Johnston City Cardinals on Thursday night with a 7:00 PM start.

Beloit powers past L-Kings for sixth straight

The Beloit Snappers extended their second half win streak, rallying back from a 5 run deficit to defeat the Clinton Lumber Kings, 8-5.

With two outs on the board in the bottom of the 1st, Renny Osuna singled. Mitchell Moreland then took a triple of Snappers starter Mike McCardell to plate him giving Clinton the early lead.

Cristian Santana led off the bottom of the 5th with a home run. Carlos Dominguez and Miguel Alfonzo used back-to-back singles to get on base. Lawson would hit a ground bunt that took Dominguez out at 3rd. Osuna then flew out before Moreland tripled to drive in 3, giving Clinton a 5-0 lead.

McCardell would work 8, allowing all 5 runs, earned, on 9 hits while striking out 6.

Beloit started battling back in the top of the sixth. Estarlin De Los Santos hit a single out to left to lead off. Chris Cates would fly out before a passed ball by Dominguez moved De Lo to 2n. Deibinson Romero singled out to left to plate Sanata, putting the Snappers on the board.

With Ryan Tatusko on the mound for the L-Kings, Ozzie Lewis would draw a walk and Greg Yersich singled to follow him onto the base. Eric Santiago's ground out moved the pair. Mark Dolenc's grounder to 3rd plated Lewis. De Lo would reach on a fielder's choice that failed when Dominguez failed to make the catch, allowing Yersich to score. Hector Nelo then made his way to mound from the bullpen. A passed ball by Dominguez moved Cates to 3rd. Romero would triple him in then come home on a sac-fly by Chris Parmelee, making it 7-5 Snappers.

Beloit tagged on one more in the 9th with Dolenc singling then moving on a sac-bunt by Delo. He'd steal 3rd and a throwing error by the hapless Dominguez scored him.

Bad game for Senor Dominguez. Good game for Snappers!

De Lo and Dolenc were both 2-for-4 with a pair of runs, Dolenc with a RBI was well, Romero went 2-for-5 with a triple, a run and 2 runs scored. Cates, Lewis and Yersich all singled and recorded a run for the Snappers; Cates and Lewis each had a walk as well.

The LumberKings (1-4) and Snappers (5-0) continue the series tomorrow night at Alliant Energy Field, first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM.

Beloit outslugs Chiefs

Peoria 8 at Beloit 9

The Beloit Snappers won a slug fest Saturday, pounding out 18 hits for 9 runs to overcome the Peoria Chiefs, 9-8. To a certain extend however, the Snappers were their own worst enemy, putting five errors on the board.

Santos Arias, who pitched last season for the GCL Twins, took the start, and worked 5.2 innings. He'd give up 5 runs - only three earned - on 6 hits and two walks while striking out 4.

Arias walked Jovan Rosa to start the second inning. He then got Cliff Anderson out on strikes, but Rosa would steal 2nd. Marquez Smith then doubled out to left to drive in Rosa. A fly ball single by Mario Mercedes brought in Smith. Mercedes would try to stretch the hit for a double, but was taken out at 2nd base.

The Snappers would take one back in the bottom of the 3rd. Mark Dolenc took a walk, then stole 2nd. Ben Revere's single moved Dolenc to 3rd and Chris Cate's ground ball bunt would score the Beloit left fielder.

Following back-to-back strike outs to Chris Parmelee and Joe Benson in the 4th, Steve Singleton would triple his way on to the bags. Danny Lehman's fly ball to center served ot plate him. Greg Yersich then doubled to score Lehmann, giving Beloit the lead.

It would a short lived one however, as Nate Samson reached on a throwing error by Snappers 3rd baseman Garrett Olson. Josh Donaldson and Rosa then hit back-to-back doubles off Santos. Rosa's would drive in two. He would try to make it to 3rd, but Benson rifled the ball in from right to get allow Olson to get the tag on Rosa.

The Daytona Cubs-to-be then added another point in the top of the 6th, with Anderson doubling. He'd move to 3rd on Smith's ground out. Mercees reached on a fielder's choice that had Anderson out at home. It would also take Arias out of the game, as Matt Williams came into replace the Dominican Republic native.

With one out on the board in the bottom of the sixth, Yersich singled. Revere and Cates then drew back-to-back walks to load the bags. Olson singled to drive in two to tie up the game again.

In the bottom of the 8th with Steve Vento on the mound for the Cubs affiliate, Benson would double, then cross the plate on a Singlton line drive to left to give Beloit the lead. That one run would prove to be the difference in the contest.

Following a Samson fly out, Donaldson would single out to center, and Rosa would reach on a throwing error by Ramon Santana. Donaldson would score on the play when Lehmann added his own throwing error. Anderson then singled to dive in Rosa. Blair Erickson would be brought to the mound to relieve Spencer Steedley, issuing a walk to Smith. A Mercedes single out to center would score Anderson, giving the Chief's eight runs on the board.

Dustin Sasser was told to close the game for the Chiefs, but Santana took a single off of him to start out the bottom of the stanza. Dolenc then reached on a force attempt that was foiled on a throwing error by Rosa. Revere's bunt single moved the pair around and loaded the bases. Cates would ground into a double play that plated Santana, and Olson would then double to bring in Dolenc. Pamelee's line drive to center would bring in Anderson, giving the Snappers the win and ending the contest.

Revere was 3-for-4 with a pair of walks and a run. Dolenc was 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and 3 runs. Singleton was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Olson was 3-for-6 with a run and 3 RBIs. Cates would go 2-for-5 with a RBI, and Parmelee would finish up 2-for-6 with an RBI.

The Snappers look for a sweep today at 2:00 PM central at Pohlman Field.
