Fort Myers 2 at Jupiter 3

Record 22 - 32

W: C. Volstad (5-5, 4.97); L: J. Rainville (2-6, 3.05); SV: T. Doolittle (15)
HR: FTM: J. Portes (2).

From miraclebaseball.com: Former Fort Myers Miracle JR Taylor, signed earlier in the week by the Florida Marlins, hurt his former team by delivering a two-run single in the third inning that proved to be the difference as the Jupiter Hammerheads held on for a 3-2 victory over the Miracle. Saturday night took just two hours and five minutes to complete and marked the 23rd time this season the Miracle have played in a one-run game.

The three-run Jupiter third began with a one-out walk by Trent D’Antonio and a single to center from Agustin Septimo to put runners at first and second. Lorenzo Scott would quickly smack a RBI-double to center bringing in the first Hammerheads run. Taylor followed with his two-run single to right sending the Jupiter lead to 3-0.

The pair of Miracle runs on the night came in the sixth inning as Juan Portes belted his second home run of the season bringing the good guys to within one. The Miracle had several opportunities early to score first at Roger Dean Stadium on Saturday but couldn’t muster any offense together at the right time in the first five innings of play.

Miracle starter Jay Rainville took another tough loss on Saturday tossing seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five. Jupiter starter Chris Volstad went six frames allowing Portes’ two-run blast and five other hits to pick up his fifth win of the year. Michael Doolittle worked around a one-out single from Dwayne White in the ninth to pick up his Florida State League leading 15th save.

Game two of the series will take place Sunday afternoon with the Miracle set to face another MLB rehabber in RHP Josh Johnson from the Florida Marlins set to start for the Hammerheads. The Miracle will counter by sending RHP Yohan Pino (1-2, 1.57) to the mound at Roger Dean Stadium for a 1:05 p.m. start.
