Record 29-25

W: B. Bullington (9-2, 2.75); L: D. Gassner (1-5, 5.88); SV: D. Kolb (4)
HR: ROC: G. Williams (4), M. Tolbert (3).

From redwingsbaseball.com: The Wings used the long ball to their advantage and Brian Duensing had another quality start, going 6 2/3 innings and giving up two runs while striking out nine to lead Rochester to a 7-2 victory over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday night at Frontier Field. Glenn Williams had a two-run home run and Garrett Jones and Doug Deeds each had solo blasts.

The Wings got their offense going in the second inning when Tommy Watkins hit a sharp single past third baseman Chris Basak, advancing Williams--who reached first on an error-- to second base. Two batters later Korey Feiner was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After Denard Span's force out at home plate, Alexi Casilla put Rochester ahead with a two-out, three-run double down the right field line to give the Wings an early 3-0 lead.

In the third inning the Yankees responded. After striking out Basak, Duensing (2-0) walked the next two batters and gave up an RBI single to Alberto Gonzalez to make it 3-1. Sardhina followed with a strikeout, then Andy Phillips hit a single up the middle. As Raul Chavez rounded third base trying to score on the play, Gonzalez was thrown out at third by center fielder Denard Span before Chavez scored to end the inning.

The Wings came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Jones extended his hitting streak to seven games with a single that got things started, and Glenn Williams followed with a two-run blast to right field to give the Wings a 5-1 lead. Rochester had another opportunity after Trent Oeltjen stole second then reached third on an error, but Feiner grounded out to short to end the threat.

Scranton bounced back with a solo home run by Angel Chavez to trim their deficit to 5-2 in the fifth inning. But Rochester responded again in the bottom half with a solo shot by Jones to give them a 6-2 lead.

Ricky Barrett relieved Duensing with two outs in the seventh and forced Raul Chavez to pop out to second. He pitched the rest of the game, giving up no runs on two hits and striking out four.

The Wings added another solo home run in the seventh inning when Deeds hit a 1-1 pitch off reliever Justin Pope over the right field wall, extending his hitting streak to eight games and giving them a 7-2 lead.

Steven Jackson took the loss for Scranton after pitching five innings and giving up three runs on eight hits.

Altoona 5 at New Britain 4

Record: 28-24

W: C. Hernandez (2-1, 3.50); L: F. Mata (0-1, 5.73); SV: M. Peterson (10)
HR: ALT: A. Boeve (7). NBR: B. Peterson (7).

From rockcats.com: Altoona’s Adam Boeve hit a two-run home run off New Britain reliever Frank Mata in the top of the ninth to give the Curve a 5-4 win at New Britain Stadium.

The game started as a pitcher’s duel between Rock Cats’ starter Ryan Mullins and the Curve’s Luis Munoz. Mullins tossed seven impressive innings for the Rock Cats. The 23-year-old limited the Curve to two runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out four in his second career Double-A start, but came away with the no-decision. Munoz was just as imposing, allowing three runs (2ER) on eight hits with four strikeouts.

The Curve took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on Alex Fernandaez’ RBI single to right field. Neil Walker, who reached base on a walk, then scored on Brian Peterson’s double play groundout for a 2-0 advantage.

The Rock Cats cut the Curve’s lead in half with Brock Peterson’s solo blast to center field. In the third, the Rock Cats struck again. Kyle Geiger opened the inning with a double and moved to third on Brandon Roberts’ sac bunt. Geiger scored on a single by Felix Molina to tie the game. Trevor Plouffe advanced the runners and reached base safely with a bunt. Brian Buscher’s groundout to shortstop allowed Molina to score and gave the Rock Cats the lead, 3-2.

Steven Pearce doubled to center field off Mata in the eighth to knock in Brandon Chaves and tie the game. Pearce was thrown out at third base when Molina cutoff Roberts’ throw from center field and threw to catcher Kyle Geiger trying to tag Chaves out at home, but Pearce attempted to take third on the throw home and Geiger fired the ball to third base for the final out of the inning.

Momentum carried over into the bottom of the inning for the Rock Cats. Felix Molina singled, Brian Buscher drew an intentional walk, and Brock Peterson walked to load the bases. Altoona reliever Dave Davidson then walked Garrett Guzman to score Molina from third for the go-ahead run. The lead would be short-lived, though, as the Curve came out swinging in the top of the ninth. Walker singled to lead off the inning and Boeve delivered a two-run shot over the center field wall.

Mata (0-1) allowed three runs on six hits in two innings to suffer the loss. For the Rock Cats, Molina led the offense with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate and scored two runs. Chris Hernandez (2-1) came away with the win, despite walking three in 2/3 innings. Matt Peterson threw a shutout ninth for his tenth save.

The Curve and Rock Cats will play the middle game of their three-game series Wednesday night at New Britain Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. Wardell Starling (2-4, 5.47) will get the starting nod for Altoona, while New Britain will counter with righty Tristan Crawford (5-3, 4.04).

Fort Myers 4 at Jupiter 3

Record 24 - 33

W: E. Morlan (3-2, 2.61); L: J. Gogal (1-1, 0.73); SV: A. Garcia (3)
HR: FTM: C. Moore (1).

E: Tolleson (13, fielding), Morlan (1, pickoff).

From miraclebaseball.com: Fort Myers Miracle catcher Caleb Moore couldn't have picked a better time to smash his first home run of the season on Tuesday night. After the Hammerheads scored an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth sending the contest into extra innings, it was Moore who connected on a two-out blast in the tenth lifting the Miracle to a 4-3 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Stadium.

A pair of runs in the Miracle third began the scoring on the night. Luis Ugueto and Erik Lis would pick up RBI-singles in the inning for a 2-0 lead. Steve Tolleson, who reached on a fielder's choice, would tally first on Ugueto's base hit to right while Juan Portes came across on Lis' single to left.

After Dwayne White's RBI-double in the sixth brought home Lis with the third Miracle run, the Hammerheads would finally cut into the lead a half-inning later. Former Miracle JR Taylor, who went 3-for-4, picked up his second single of the night to lead off the sixth.

After a Gaby Sanchez walk, Andrew Jenkins would move both runners up 90 feet with his groundout to second base. Taylor would later score on wild pitch for the initial Jupiter run before Sanchez closely followed on a Colin Roberson single to right.

Jupiter would send the ball game to extra innings with their third run in the ninth. Pinch-hitter Agustin Septimo led off with a pop up to short that Steve Tolleson couldn't handle cleanly allowing the lead off man to reach. After a Lorenzo Scott strikeout and J.R. Taylor foul out, Gaby Sanchez smoked a double to the gap in right-center plating Septimo, with the unearned run, knotting the game at three apiece.

Lis ended the night going 4-for-5 with a double and three singles to go along with White's two doubles, apart of his 3-for-4 night, helping the Miracle earn a split in the four-game series. The Miracle out-hit Jupiter as well by a count of 13-10.

The Miracle now head back home to the friendly confines of Hammond Stadium to entertain the visiting Vero Beach Devil Rays. The four-game set will begin Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Joe Mauer, on a rehab appearance in Fort Myers, will be in the starting lineup for the Miracle and likely catch the entire game. The opener will see RHP Zach Ward (2-7, 2.51) go for the Miracle against the Rays' Wade Davis (3-0, 1.95).

Mauer Pauer: The Minnesota Twins announced today that catcher Joe Mauer will make a rehab start for the Miracle at Hammond Stadium on Wednesday night in preparation for his eventual return to the Twins. Mauer will likely bat third for the Miracle and will be the starting catcher in Wednesday night's game. Earlier Tuesday, Mauer caught in an extended spring training game on the back fields of the Lee County Sports Complex. Mauer is recovering from a strained left quadriceps muscle, an injury he suffered during spring training.

Mauer became the first catcher in American League history to win a batting title last season, posting a .347 average. He started the 2003 season in a Miracle uniform, and hit .335 before being called up to double-A New Britain just after the All-Star break. Mauer also rehabbed with the Miracle in 2004, playing in 2 games. Miraclebaseball.com

Beloit 1 at Peoria 9

Record 35-22

W: J. Papelbon (3-2, 3.28); L: A. Hawes (3-6, 3.92)
HR: None.

E: Valencia (7, fielding).

From peoria chiefs.com: The Peoria Chiefs took three out of four games from the first place Beloit Snappers with a 9-1 victory on Tuesday night at O’Brien Field. The win moves the Chiefs back to .500 on the season and 6.5 games back of the first place Snappers.

For the second straight night the Chiefs got five strong innings from a starter as Marco Carrillo surrendered just one run on two hits from the games first two batters while striking out five. He also retired his last 15 batters before leaving the game trailing 1-0. Jeremy Papelbon retired the first three batters he faced to make it 18 consecutive Snappers sent down before Danny Santiesteban singled in the seventh.

Beloit loaded the bases in the first inning after Carrillo gave up back-to-back singles to Brian Dinkleman and Danny Berg and then hit Johnny Woodard with a pitch. The first run of the night came across on a sacrifice fly by Chris Parmelee to make it 1-0. Carrillo then got Santiesteban to ground out to end the threat.

The Chiefs offense was able to break through in the sixth after a walk to Ryne Malone to start the inning followed by a single by Josh Lansford. Jim Adduci came to the plate and for the second straight night doubled down the left field line to score both Malone and Lansford and give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead. Ryan Norwood followed with a sacrifice fly to score Adduci to push the lead to 3-1.

Peoria added to the lead in the eighth after Malone picked up his second hit of the game and came around to score on a Yusuf Carter double to make it 4-1. Adduci was intentionally walked and he and Carter pulled off a double steal to give the Chiefs two runners in scoring position. Norwood then banged a double off the wall in left center field to drive in his second run of the series and make it a 5-1 Chiefs lead. Alfred Joseph picked up an RBI on a ground out to make it 6-1. Dylan Johnston kept the inning going with two outs with a stand up triple to the gap in right center to score Wellington Castillo and Norwood to make it 8-1 Chiefs. The two-out hitting continued with a Camp single to right to score Johnston and make it 9-1.

Papelbon worked three scoreless innings and allowed two hits to pick up his third win of the season. Adam Hawes suffered the loss in six innings of work while allowing four hits and three runs. The newest addition to the Chiefs roster Donnie Walters pitched a scoreless ninth in his first appearance after joining the club earlier in the day.

Beloit takes Wednesday off and returns home to Pohlman field on Thursday to face the Burlington Bees starting at 7:00 PM.

Beloit (Twins) second baseman Brian Dinkelman (.274, 4 HR, 15 RBIs, 7 SB) was named to the West All-Star team for the Midwest League yesterday. Beloit star Jeff Manship (tops in the league with a 1.49 era) will join him Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva, Ill, home of the Kane County Cougars.

From milb.com: Perhaps the most likely candidate to be gone to the next level by All-Star time is Beloit closer extraordinaire Robert Delaney, but if he's still around look for him to trot out for the final inning for the West. Delaney, who posted a 4.74 ERA and collected two saves in his pro debut last summer, mostly in the Gulf Coast League, is 18-for-18 in save opportunities for the Snappers, with an 0.57 ERA and a .131 average against him.

Snappers Fall in Finale

Beloit Snappers
