Scranton/WB 1 at Rochester 4

Record 28-24

W: N. Blackburn (1-1, 3.42); L: K. Igawa (0-2, 4.50); SV: B. Korecky (13)
HR: ROC: A. Casilla (1).

E: Casilla (5, throw).

From redwingsbaseball.com: Nick Blackburn brought a perfect game into the sixth inning, getting the winning decision as the Red Wings beat Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 4-1 Sunday afternoon at Frontier Field.

New York Yankees pitcher Kei Igawa started for Scranton, after speculation that he would be called up to pitch for New York on Monday. Igawa, who signed a five-year, $20 million contract, made his second Triple-A start after being demoted from New York to Class A Tampa in the Florida State League. Igawa received a Rochester greeting from Wings leadoff hitter Alexi Casilla, who blasted a 2-1 pitch from Igawa to left for a home run. It was Casilla's first homer of the year; Casilla hit only one home run all of last year.

The game remained dominated by pitching into the fourth inning. In the bottom of the inning, Matt Tolbert led off with a solid single to center field. After a Glenn Williams strikeout, Garrett Jones hit a one hopper that went off the the first baseman's glove and Jones was able to slide safely into the bag just ahead of the diving fielder. Matthew LeCroy loaded the bases after working a walk setting the table to Tommy Watkins who walked, forcing in the second run of the game. Doug Deeds hit a soft line drive that was snared by the shortstop, who tossed to second to double off LeCroy at second to prevent further damage.

Blackburn did not allow a base runner until the sixth inning, when a line drive to centerfield went off the tip of Denard Span's glove and fell in for a double. Blackburn did not seem affected by the hit and retired the next two batters in order to escape the inning unscathed.

The ball game remained close in the late innings, but the Wings scraped across two late runs. In the seventh, Deeds scored with the help of a Scranton miscue and Casilla's third hit of the game. Tolbert also scored in the eighth just before Williams was tagged out in rundown for the final out of the inning while he tried to steal second base.

Igawa (0-2) pitched effectively for Scranton, striking out nine batters while allowing two earned runs over his seven innings pitched. However, he was out-duelled by Blackburn (1-1) who scattered four hits over eight fantastic innings of work, throwing only 88 pitches to pick up the win. Closer Bobby Korecky pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his 13th save of the season.

New Hampshire 1 at New Britain 4

Record: 28-23

W: T. Lahey (5-0, 3.55); L: J. Litsch (5-2, 1.24); SV: F. Mata (3)
HR: None.

E: Buscher (9, fielding), Molina, F (10, fielding).

From rockcats.com: The Rock Cats combined effective pitching with timely hits against Jesse Litsch, who had just returned from a brief stint in the Majors, to down New Hampshire 4-1. The win completed the sweep of Sunday’s doubleheader.

Litsch, who made his Major League Debut with Toronto on May 15 and started four games with the Blue Jays, entered the game with a 5-1 record and 0.96 ERA in 37 2/3 innings pitched in the Eastern League. On Sunday, he surrendered six hits and four runs (2 ER) to the Rock Cats.

In the first inning, Trevor Plouffe doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch by Litsch. Brain Buscher then singled to knock in Plouffe for a 1-0 Rock Cats lead. In the second, the Rock Cats struck again. Rashad Eldridge doubled and Jeff Christy followed with a walk. New Hampshire second baseman Juan Peralta then misplayed a grounder off the bat of Brandon Roberts that allowed Eldridge to score and Roberts to reach first. Felix Molina hit a ground ball fielded by Peralta that looked like shortstop Sergio Santos would turn into a double play, but Molina beat out the throw at first. Christy scored on the force out.

The Rock Cats helped out the Fisher Cats in the fifth inning. John Schneider reached on a fielding error by Buscher at third base. With two outs, Schneider later scored on a fielding error by Molina at second base to close the gap, 3-1. Molina redeemed himself in the bottom of the inning. Roberts led off the bottom half of the fifth with a triple and Molina knocked him in with an infield single.

Fort Myers 2 at Jupiter 3 (Wow! DejaVu!)

Record 22 - 33

W: K. Koehler (1-0, 0.00); L: E. Morlan (2-2, 2.79)
HR: JUP: A. Septimo (2).

E: Moore 2 (4, fielding, throw).

From miraclebaseball.com: An RBI-single in the bottom of the ninth from Lorenzo Scott would propel the Jupiter Hammerheads to their second-consecutive 3-2 win over the Fort Myers Miracle on Sunday afternoon. Scott laced his second hit of the day just over the head of Luis Ugueto at short, to score Trent D’Antonio with the game’s decisive run.

Jupiter’s ninth inning began with Miracle reliever Eddie Morlan striking out the Hammerheads Jonathan Fulton for the first out. After back-to-back walks by D’Antonio and Agustin Septimo, Morlan would give up the walk-off single to Scott ending the matinee.

The Miracle struck first in the second as Edward Ovalle led off with a single up the middle and later score on a Juan Portes RBI-double to center. Jupiter would waste little time trying to catch up as Septimo cracked his second home run of the season leading off the third.

Portes would score the second Miracle run of the afternoon as Javi Sanchez reached on a fielding error by Septimo at short that gave the Miracle a brief 2-1 lead. Again, the Hammerheads wouldn’t take long to knot things up as Gaby Sanchez hit into a fielder’s choice with the bases loaded plating Septimo in the fifth, with the home team’s second run, before the game-winner in the ninth.

The Miracle had their best shot to re-gain a third lead on the day with a lead off single from Ugueto in the eighth, but Ugueto would be picked off of first after an Erik Lis fly ball to left that would end any threat.

With the win, the Hammerheads, for the first time this season, have won three-in-a-row. The Miracle drop their third-straight and fall to 10-14 in one-run games. Game three of the series takes place on Monday night at Roger Dean Stadium beginning at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Josh Hill (1-2, 3.55) gets the call for the Miracle alongside Jupiter’s RHP Ryan Tucker (3-3, 4.50).

Beloit threatened in the first inning after Garrett Olson was hit by a Juan Mateo pitch then Johnny Woodard and Danny Valencia both singled to load the bases with one out. Mateo worked out of the jam by getting Chris Parmelee to ground into a 1-2-3 double play to end the threat.

The Snappers scored first in the second inning after Wilson Ramos doubled to the gap in right center and Brian Dinkleman reached on a bunt single. The next batter Danny Santiesteban hit a three-run homer off Mateo to left field to make it 3-0. Beloit added to the lead in the fourth inning. After a lead off walk to Santiesteban by reliever by Al Alburquerque, Yancarlos Ortiz tripled to the gap in right center field to make it 5-0. Steven Singleton followed with a sacrifice fly to score Ortiz from third to make it 6-0.

The Chiefs offense was finally able to break through against Beloit starter Brian Kirwan in the fourth after Josh Lansford doubled down the left field line and came around to score on two-out RBI single by Jim Addcui.

Ryne Malone and Jonathon Mota singled to start the sixth inning and Matt Camp reached on a bunt single down the third base line to load the bases with no outs. Lansford and Russ Canzler hit back-to-back sacrifice flies to cut the deficit to 6-3. Carter then followed with a single to earn his team high 30th RBI and score Camp from third base to make it 6-4.

Woodard led off the seventh inning with a solo home run off Oscar Bernard to extend the Beloit lead to 7-4. Danny Valencia walked and then Parmelee and Wilson Ramos hit back-to-back doubles to score a run and make it 8-4.
