From redwingsbaseball.com/Milb.com: The Syracuse Chiefs used three hits and a walk to post three sixth inning runs, giving the Chiefs a 4-2 win Friday night at Frontier Field. Darnell McDonald and Tommy Watkins homered for Rochester; the Wings open a two-game series with the first place Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Saturday in Pennsylvania, with the series moving to Frontier Monday and Tuesday night.
Wings starter Kevin Slowey proved to be vulnerable in the first inning but was fortunate in not allowing any runs. Russ Adams and Kevin Barker hit back-to-back singles with one out to put runners on first and third. Syracuse slugger John-Ford Griffin then flew out to short and Adam Lind struck out to help the Wings get out of an early jam.
Syracuse struck first in the second inning. John Hattig got things started with a double, then scored on Robinzon Diaz's RBI single up the middle to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Ray Olmedo then advanced to second on his one-out single after Denard Span's unsuccessful attempt in throwing Hattig out at third, putting two runners in scoring position. Slowey then struck out Wayne Lydon and forced Adams to pop out to catcher Jose Morales to end the inning.
In the fifth the Wings threatened with runners on first and second with two outs but Alexi Casilla struck out on a splitter, leaving Banks' quest for a shutout intact. Slowey settled down after giving up his first run, retiring eight of the next 10 Syracuse hitters without allowing any to reach scoring position.
Slowey began to struggle in the sixth inning. Lind's one-out single followed by Mike Vento's walk allowed Hattig to hit a sharp run-scoring double over Garrett Jones' head on a ball that he misjudged. Diaz then hit a two-run single that bounced off the glove of second basemen Matt Tolbert, who was playing in. Olmedo followed with a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning with Syracuse leading 4-0.
Rochester responded in the bottom half of the sixth. McDonald hit a towering solo home run that sneaked inside the left field pole to trim their deficit to 4-1. Jones' single was followed by a 4-6-3 double play by Glenn Williams to end the momentum.
Slowey pitched six innings allowing four earned runs on nine hits and striking three. It was his first time allowing more than three runs as a Red Wing this season.
Syracuse starter Josh Banks pitched six 2/3 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits. Watkins' solo blast in the seventh cut the Chiefs lead to 4-2 and forced Banks out of the game, but the Wings could not muster any more offense in the inning against Syracuse reliever Scott Sauerbeck, who came in to get the final two outs. Jason Miller pitched three scoreless relief innings for the Wings, allowing just one hit and striking out two.
NOTES: LHP Carmen Cali moved to 5-0 with his win in Thursday’s 3-2 victory over Syracuse at Frontier Field. Cali is the first Red Wings relief pitcher to start the season with a 5-0 record since 1981 when LHP Jeff Schneider started 5-0 (finished with a 5-1 record). Cali is only the sixth pitcher (seven times) to start the season with a 5-0 record since 1988 and first to do it since 1998. Here’s a look at the distinguished list (RHP Joel Bennett 10-0 in 1998, LHP Jamie Moyer 6-0 in 1993, RHP Bob Milacki 5-0 in 1992 and 1988, RHP John Mitchell 5-0 in 1990, and RHP Mickey Weston 10-0 in 1990)....Brian Buscher singled on a 1-1 pitch from Cleveland's Paul Byrd Friday night, getting a hit in his big league debut with the Twins. Buscher added another single off Byrd later in the game.

From nhfishercats.com: Rob Cosby hit a second inning home run and had the go-ahead single in the seventh inning to propel the Fisher Cats to an 8-6 win over the New Britain Rock Cats.
The single in the seventh put the team ahead 7-6, and the play was named the RELCO Enlightening Play of Game.
The Fisher Cats were behind 5-2 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, but the team rallied for six runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings scoring two in each frame.
The fifth inning had Sergio Santos drive home Erik Kratz and Manny Mayorson on a double to right-center field.
David Smith hit his fifth home run in five games in the sixth inning bringing home Chip Cannon and tie the game at six.
Mayorson and Ryan Patterson led off with back-to-back singles to start the seventh inning. Santos flew out to left field for the first out, and then the Rock Cats optioned to intentionally walk Aaron Mathews. Cosby then singled between the third baseman and the shortstop to bring home Mayorson. Cannon's sacrifice fly to right field scored Patterson to lead the team to the win.
Santos (two RBI, one run), Cosby (three RBI, one run) and Cannon (two RBI, one run) each had two hits apiece.
Kurt Isenberg started and went five innings allowing six runs on 11 hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Jean Machi earned the win going two innings giving up just one hit and one walk. Sean Stidfole and Jesse Carlson (fifth save in five chances) each worked a scoreless inning of relief.
Garrett Guzman led the Rock Cats going 4 for 5 with two RBI and one run. Luke Hughes hit his fifth home run of the year for New Britain.
The Fisher Cats return to the field Saturday with a day-night doubleheader with the Rock Cats. LHP Ricky Romero (0-4, 5.04) faces New Britain's RHP Yohan Pino (0-1, 17.18) in the 2:05pm game. The 7:05pm game features RHP Yusaku Iriki (1-3, 5.88) opposing a pitcher to still be determined for the Rock Cats. The nightcap includes another Atlas Fireworks Show and Regal Cinemas Promotional Night.

The daily tarp pulling contest remains one of the more popular promotions at Hammond Stadium
This was a long game. It took two days to play it. It was also a short game, as the contest only lasted 6 1/2 innings.
But then, the Miracle faithful have seen more rain in the last two days than baseball.
Zach Ward started off by pitching a no hitter on Thursday...for all of two innings.
Brian Dinkelman walked, and Erik Lis hit his 9th home run of the season to make it 2-0 Miracle in the first inning.
In the second, Edward Ovalle walked, moved to second on Luis Ugueto's ground ball bunt, and to 3rd on a passed ball by Francisco Cervelli. Jeff Christy offered up a sac-fly to bring him across the plate, making it 3-0.
That's when the rains came, clearing the field of players and ushering in the tarp crew. They'd wait until 9 PM before finally calling the game, due to unplayable field conditions.
Errol Simonitch would replace Ward to resume the game on Friday. The no hitter ended in the 4th, when Austin Jackson singled.
Ugueto took a walk in the bottom of that inning, and wandered over to second when Christy drew a walk as well. Dinkelman hit into a double play, but Kevin Russo misplayed the ball, allowing Dinkelman to reach first and Ugueto to cross the plate to make it 4-0.
Reegie Corona got the Yankees on the board in the 6th when he doubled off Simo, then moved to 3rd on Jackson's ground out. Jose Tabata plated him, but Simo managed 2 more gound outs to end the inning.
Marcos Echionacci douled in the 7th and came home on a pair of singles by Tim Battle and Kevin Russo. Kevin Boles had just gone up to the hill to relieve Simonitch of his duties, when the umpires decided it might be prudent to get everyone off the field due to the close proximity of lightning in the area.
Iris was inquiring how they would know to resume the game if it didn't rain, but she really didn't have to worry about that, because the skies opened up shortly thereafter.
It was Dog Daze II at the stadium and the rain was heavy enough to force people to seek shelter in the more portected areas of the concourse. Lots of dogs, lightning, rain, and very little room led quickly to a Mike Vick promotion at Hammond Stadium. Leave it to the Mircle to jump on the controversial topics of today for their promotions.
In all honesty, the dogs were better behaved then some of the autograph seekers who had come looking for Jason Giambi's sig. Giambi kept the crowd amused, as did promotions by the Canine Coach and one of the local dog adoption agencies.
Giambi signed multiple items for people, although in some cases it was clear that the individuals in question were taking advantage of his generousity.
The field crew worked their best magic, and while we had dogs, not frogs, hoping on the field, it wouldn't be enough and the game was called around 8 PM.
Giambi will stay with Tampa as they try to play 2 today against the Miracle starting at 5:05 on Backpack Give Away night.
Surpringly enough Saturday's forcast calls for late afternoon thunder storms, with a 60% chance of rain starting at 2 PM and lasting until 11 PM at night. WUnderground

From snappersbaseball.com: Steve Singleton hit a one-out single in the bottom of the fifth inning to notch the only hit of the night for the Snappers. Singleton and the Snappers fell to the Silver Hawks, 1-0 on Friday night.
South Bend scored their lone run in the bottom of the first inning on a Brad Miller RBI single to center field. Miller drove home Joey Side who singled off of pitcher Alex Burnett with one out in the inning. Side’s run gave the Silver Hawks all the runs that they would need.
South Bend starter Cesar Valdez pitched an absolute gem allowing only one hit while striking out four Snappers and going the distance.
Beloit starter Alex Burnett also pitched well only allowing one run off of five hits in six innings. Burnett improved his ERA to 2.90 in the loss.
Beloit’s second half record is now 19-13.

Liam Hendriks says there is no such thing as an Australian Shephard. It's unfortunate that he was not at the Miracle game Friday night, as there was an Aussie Shepard pup hanging out at the beer garden.
Perhaps he was tired out after striking out 8 in four innings during the GCL Twins' pasting of the GCL Red Sox. Hendriks allowed only 4 hits in the game, but did not pick up the win. That distinction when to Nelvin Fuentes who came on to relieve him in the 5th.
The Twins jumped on the Red sox early, when Jeanfred Brito reached on a throwing error by Boston shortstop Oscar Tejeda. Ben Revere followed that with a bunt single, and Andrew Schmiesing followed them onto the bags with a hit out to center field. Juan Richardson doubled the trio in, stole 3rd and came home on a Angel Morales sac fly.
Coach Milt Cuyler says that also long as Brito and Revere do their job and get on base, the Twins will be alright. That was also the case in the bottom of the second inning, as the leadoff pair both singled. Brito got caught stealing, but Revere managed it with Schmiesing at the plate. The Twins left fielder hit a single that brought Revere in, but he tried to stretch his hit for a double and was taken out at second. Richardson ground out to end the inning.
That would be all the Twins would get in the game, but it proved to be enough for a stingy Twins pitching staff.
Fuentos would allow only 1 hit while striking out 2 during twin innings on the mound. Jakub Toufar allowed 2 hits, but came out of the seventh fine, using a pair of ground outs and a fly out to retire the Red Sox.
Mark Hamburger walked Luis Sumoza in the top of the 8th, and a fielding error by Brito put him into scoring position on 3rd. Ricardo Burgos ground out would allow him to score, but Hamburger also got ground outs of Tejeda and Victor Serrano to end the late inning rally.
Revere finished off the game 3-for-4 at the plate with 2 runs, Schmeising was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and a run, and Richardson had 2 RBIs in the game. Morlaes struck out 3 times but did have the 1 RBI in the first inning. Jon Waltenbury drew the lone Twins walk.
The team takes on the Orioles for a league wide 10 AM start on Saturday at Twin Lakes Park in Sarasota, and then takes Sunday off before hosting the Pirates on Monday.
